Five horsemen whose quick action averted a disaster during the Aug. 22 barn fire at Ellis Park were honored Sunday in a winner’s circle tribute at the western Kentucky track. Marvin Prado, a groom for Eddie Kenneally, was first on the scene in freeing six horses and a stable pony from a blaze that destroyed the receiving barn. Prado braved the fire when getting the horses out of their stalls and handing them off one by one to the other men on the scene. One of those horses was Bold and Bossy, the unraced 2-year-old filly who made international news the previous afternoon when galloping down an adjacent highway after getting loose prior to her scheduled debut. Michael Ann Ewing, the trainer of Bold and Bossy, has been providing recent updates on social media, saying the filly is sore and bruised but otherwise fine. Monomoy Girl back galloping Monomoy Girl, the two-time Eclipse champion, is back galloping daily at Ellis under the supervision of Jorgito Abrego, assistant to Brad Cox.
