Heritage Place Futurity tops rich card
Some of the top Quarter Horses in training will descend on Remington Park on Saturday night for the Oklahoma City track’s penultimate card of the meet, which features six stakes worth more than $2 million in total.
The program is led by the Grade 1, $1,020,980 Heritage Place Futurity, which drew Paint Me Perry and Im a Fancy Pyc, the nation’s second- and third-leading 2-year-olds in a poll put out by the American Quarter Horse Association. The Grade 1, $250,000 Remington Park Invitational, meanwhile, lured three of the nation’s top older horses in the current rankings.
Remington will have a special first post of 5 p.m. Central to accommodate a 12-race program that drew 120 horses. The fields for the stakes races each feature maximum gates.
Paint Me Perry and Im a Fancy Pyc are both undefeated stakes winners. Paint Me Perry has won all three of his starts, including the Oklahoma Futurity at Remington in March. In his May 10 trial for the Heritage Place, run over 350 yards, he cruised to a 1 3/4-length win for J and B Rental and trainer Francisco Gonzalez. Paul Nieto has the mount from the rail Saturday.
Im a Fancy Pyc is perfect in four starts and was a two-length winner of his trial for the Heritage Place on May 9. Earlier in the meet, he won the Oklahoma-bred Futurity at Remington. Randy Wilson has the mount once again for Dustin Cox and trainer Joe F. Thomas.
The Heritage Place field of 10 also includes Lovethewayyoulie, who was the fastest qualifier on the first night of trials, when she won her 350-yard division in 17.44 seconds. Apolitical Pac was the fastest qualifier on the second night of trials, winning in 17.69.
The Remington Park Invitational, for 3-year-olds and up at 440 yards, drew a field of 12. It offers its winner a berth in the Grade 1, $750,000 Champion of Champions in December at Los Alamitos. Last year, Feature Hero, who will break from post 11 in the Remington Invitational, finished fourth in the Champion of Champions. He earned a place in the race by virtue of his win in the Grade 1 All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs.
Llano Cartel, Tf Featured Effort, and Dash Master Jess rank a respective third, fourth, and fifth in the poll of leading 3-year-olds and up put out by the AQHA.
The card Saturday night also includes the Grade 2, $275,050 Heritage Place Derby.
