Here's Hannah delivers in Strawberry Morn Handicap
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – It wasn’t as easy as expected, but Here’s Hannah was a game winner over Good Luck to You in the $50,000 Strawberry Morn Handicap at Hastings on Saturday. She paid $3 for a 2 1/2-length victory and posted a final time of 1:45.45 in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares
With Richard Hamel aboard, she broke sharply and under strong restraint dueled with Oxhilirating through a moderate half-mile in 48.06 seconds. They were still together until Here’s Hannah edged clear just after turning for home. Oxhilirating held on well but was nipped at the wire for the runner-up spot by Good Luck to You.
“I knew we were going quite slow, and she wasn’t that happy about it,” said Hamel. “I guess I could have let her go a bit quicker. I thought I was going to be able to hand ride her home but I wasn’t.”
It was the ninth win in 10 starts for the British Columbia-bred daughter of Numaany. The $28,500 she earned brought her earnings to $345,300.
Trained by John Morrison, Here’s Hannah races for B C Stables and Paul Caravetta.
