Here's Hannah battles back to win Ballerina Stakes
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Here’s Hannah was a game winner over Sunburst in the Grade 3, $100,000 Ballerina at Hastings on Saturday. She paid $4.20 for her one-length victory in the 1 1/8-mile race for fillies and mares.
With Richard Hamel aboard, Here’s Hannah outbroke the field and posted honest interior fractions of 23.50 and 47.73 seconds. She held a short lead over Sunburst and Good Luck to You at the six-furlong mark, surrendered the lead to Sunburst on the stretch turn before regaining control at the sixteenth pole. Sunburst saved ground early while stalking Here’s Hannah, made what looked like a winning move from along the rail on the final turn, but hung late. Amazonian rallied from last to finish third.
The final time was 1:49.91.
Hamel said he had plenty of horse the whole way.
“She was cruising along nicely early and I wanted her to wait for a horse to come to her,” he said. “She can lose focus, like she did when Bear beat her in the Delta Colleen, but when Sunburst came to her, it put her back in the game again.”
The homebred daughter of Numanny is owned by B C Stables.
She is trained by John Morrison.
The $59,000 winner’s share boosted Here’s Hannah’s lifetime earnings to $502,350. She has compiled an impressive 12-1-1 record from 14 starts, all at Hastings. One of her losses came in her last race when she was burdened with 130 pounds in the Delta Colleen. She carried 123 pounds in the Ballerina, which was contested under scale weight conditions. The two 3-year-olds in the race, Sunburst and Amazonian, carried 118 pounds.
