Hello Youmzain wires Betfair Sprint Cup
Hello Youmzain inherited the role of co-favorite for Saturday’s Group 1 Betfair Sprint Cup at Haydock Park in England after the scratches of two leading contenders and led throughout the weakened six-furlong race.
The $366,000 Sprint Cup was greatly diminished by the withdrawal on Friday of the 3-year-old Group 1 sprint winners Advertise, because of illness, and Ten Sovereigns, because of soft turf.
Hello Youmzain, who shared the role of 9-2 favorite with Dream of Dreams, led throughout the Sprint Cup under jockey James Doyle to win for the first time at the highest level. Trained by Kevin Ryan, Hello Youmzain finished a half-length in front of 7-1 The Tin Man, who stumbled at the start.
Waldpfad, a 9-1 shipper from Germany, finished third in the field of 10.
Hello Youmzain, by Kodiac, has won 4 of 7 starts for owner Jaber Abdullah. The Sprint Cup was his first start against older horses and first race since a third-place finish behind Advertise in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot in June.
The Sprint Cup was Hello Youmzain’s third stakes win. He won a Group 2 at Maisons-Laffitte in France in 2018 and the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes for 3-year-olds at Haydock Park in May.
Advertise and Hello Youmzain may meet again in the Group 1 British Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot on Oct. 19.
