Hello Hot Rod sold for $335,000 at Fasig-Tipton February sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The promising 3-year-old colt Hello Hot Rod was among the noteworthy late supplements to the Fasig-Tipton February sale as he came in off a win in the Jimmy Winkfield Stakes on Jan. 31 at Aqueduct. He was purchased by George Sharp for $335,000 from the consignment of Elite Sales, as agent.
“Maybe I bought a Derby prospect?” Sharp tweeted immediately afterward.
Sharp’s string is based at Turf Paradise, many with Shawn Davis as trainer. The track cards the Turf Paradise Derby for 3-year-olds on March 12.
Maryland-bred Hello Hot Rod has won 3 of 4 career starts while racing for trainer Brittany Russell, who co-owned him with Dark Horse Racing. After taking an allowance race going a mile on Dec. 13 at Laurel, he won the seven-furlong Jimmy Winkfield.
