A return to Happy Valley should boost the win chances of Helene Wisdom Star, one of a dozen entrants in the nightcap Wednesday at Happy Valley in Hong Kong. The last of nine races is a Class 3 handicap for horses rated 80-60 and carded at 1,650 meters, one lap around the irregularly shaped Happy Valley course. Unlike Sha Tin, which is flat, Happy Valley has undulations and a much shorter homestretch than Sha Tin, which is used for weekend racing and all the major events on the Hong Kong circuit. Helene Wisdom Star, a one-run closer, really seemed to have gotten the hang of Happy Valley racing, running a fourth, a third, and a second before breaking through April 28 with a half-length win at this class level and distance. :: Hong Kong: Free PPs, picks, analysis, replays, and live streaming Trainer Tony Cruz tried Helene Wisdom Star on May 16 at Sha Tin, where Helene Wisdom Star had to carry 133 pounds in another Class 3, this one over 1,600 meters. The 4-year-old gelding, an Irish import, finished a flat sixth but returns to The Valley while retaining the services of leading rider Joao Moreira, who figures to drop his mount out to the tail of the field breaking from post 10, then hope for a fair pace and some racing luck. Helene Wisdom Star is one of three horses rated 76 that carry top weight of 133 pounds. The other two, Beauty Fit and Hall of Champ, both exit winning performances at the class level, picking up six and 10 pounds, respectively. Hall of Champ, Zac Purton riding for John Size, has more upside than most in this group as a 4-year-old with only five Hong Kong starts. His campaign only began in March and Beauty Fit should be fresher than many in Wednesday’s race, but he, too, is posted wide in stall 11 while trying Happy Valley for the first time. :: Download DRF's Guide to Betting Hong Kong Racing Race 9 is the last of three consecutive Class 3 handicaps, the first two over 1,200 meters. Sky Darci takes Lion Rock Trophy Sky Darci, the Hong Kong Derby winner, took full advantage of a major weight break to win the Group 3 Lion Rock Trophy on May 30 at Sha Tin. High-weights Ka Ying Star and More Than This labored home at the back of this seven-runner field, while Sky Darci, carrying just 115 pounds, 15 fewer than More Than This and 18 fewer than Ka Ying Star, was up by a head over Happy Healthy. The runner-up, like the winner, raced in the Four-Year-Old Classic series, finishing sixth after setting the pace in the 2,000-meter Hong Kong Derby. Trained by Caspar Fownes and ridden by Joao Moreira, Sky Darci probably found his natural trip here at 1,600 meters and could make one more start this Hong Kong season, Fownes said.
