Heavy Breathing to stand in New York

DRF Breeding Staff|Jul 18, 2013

Heavy Breathing, a Grade 3-placed winner and a full brother to young New York sire Frost Giant, will debut at stud in 2014, standing at Dutchess View Farm in Pine Plains, N.Y. for a fee to be announced at a later date.

The 4-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway was an early contender on the 2012 Kentucky Derby trail, finishing third in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park, after winning his first two career starts at Gulfstream Park. Later in the season, he finished second in the Lamplighter Stakes at Monmouth Park.

Heavy Breathing retired with two wins in seven starts for earnings of $124,441. He was campaigned during his racing career by Starlight Stables and trained by Todd Pletcher. Heavy Breathing will stand in New York for a partnership including Andrew Cohen’s Sunset Stables, Gary Tolchin’s Golden Goose Enterprises, and Well Found Management.

Bred in Kentucky by Manganaro LLC, Heavy Breathing was a $150,000 purchase at the 2010 Keeneland September yearling sale. He is out of Gone West mare Takesmybreathaway, who is the dam of six winners from eight foals to race, including Grade 1 winner Frost Giant, who has become a breakout young sire in New York.

His notable family members also include champion Rhythm, standout sires Not For Love and Mutakddim, Group 2 winner Kavanagh, and Grade/Group 3 winners Get Lucky, Sea Chanter, Pacific Ocean, Oregon Lady, and Playwright.

“With Frost Giant’s continuing success, including recent stakes winners West Hills Giant and Frosty Bay, we decided to bring Heavy Breathing to New York and hope he will offer another great opportunity for New York breeders who have supported Frost Giant and helped make him such a success,” Cohen said.
