Canterbury Park in Shakopee, Minn., has canceled Saturday night’s card due to excessive heat and will bring back the same program Thursday night, the track announced Saturday.
Canterbury called off the Saturday card due to a “projected excessive heat index,” according to a press release. The decision was made in conjunction with the Minnesota Racing Commission’s state veterinarian and the Minnesota Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association.
“In keeping with safety protocols, we have determined the best course of action is to run Saturday’s program on Thursday evening,” Chris Merz, director of racing, said in a press release.
The eight-race card will run as originally drawn and first post is 5 p.m. Central.
Earlier this meet, Canterbury delayed the start of a card to later in the evening due to the summer heat.
Canterbury officials expect to race as scheduled on Sunday and Wednesday.
