Heart of a King wires Tall Ships

Heart of a King led every step of the way winning the $100,000 Tall Ships at Presque Isle Downs on Saturday evening. Trained by Michael Pino, Heart of a King broke sharply in the field of six and set moderate fractions under Mario Pino. The 3-year-old son of Lion Heart drew off by 1 1/2 lengths in upper stretch and prevailed by 1 1/4 lengths at the finish. Mikoshi was second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Colonel Rutledge in third. Heart of a King ran the one mile and 70 yards in 1:40.51 and returned $6.80 to win.

* Also on the card, Winning Drive came from off the pace to win the $100,000 Lil E. Tee. Jockey Erick Rodriguez kept the 3-ear-old Pa.-bred to the outside of the field of seven before rallying in the stretch to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Trained by Mike Rogers, Winning Drive ran the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.23 and returned $4.20 to win. Anaan was second and Tiger Shark was 7 1/2 lengths back in third.

* Whistle Pig took advantage of a perfect trip to win the $75,000 Presidential Affair by three-quarters of a length. Trained by Andrew Carter and ridden by Joe Hampshire Jr., Whistle Pig stayed back off the early quick pace before rallying into the stretch and out finishing Night Stand, who was second. Remain Silent was third. Whistle Pig returned $4 to win and ran the six furlongs in 1.08.85.

* Holly's Way, under Dale Beckner, won the final stakes event of the evening. In the $100,000 Malvern Rose, Holly's Way was kept just off the early pace. Beckner asked for her best and Holly's Way responded, prevailing by a half-length over her nine rivals. Trained by Richard Beattie, Holly's Way returned $6.20 and ran the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.24. Looky Here was second and Puddy De Luca was 1 1/4 lengths back in third.
