Hazelbrook shows she's for real with Sweet Briar Too

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Hazelbrook proved her first stakes score in the Grade 3 Hendrie on July 24 wasn’t a fluke when she doubled up in Sunday’s $134,750 Sweet Briar Too on the Queen’s Plate undercard at Woodbine.
With Jason Hoyte aboard, Hazelbrook came three-wide from third to hit the front around the eighth pole en route to a three-quarter-length tally, in a time of 1:16.41 for the 6 1/2 furlongs.
“She’s a big fighter,” Hoyte said. “She’s doesn’t give up at all. She keeps trying.”
Pacepresser Beyond Mybudget was a game second. She was followed by a closing Golden Vision, pacesetter Hard Edge, the favored Amalfi Coast, and La Libertee.
Hazelbrook ($7) banked $75,000 for owner True North Stable. Trainer Lorne Richards said the 4-year-old daughter of Bayern has endured some bouts of colic.
“She’s had some issues with her stomach and has been to the clinic a few times,” Richards said. “Jason has worked for me for parts of the last 10 years, and he decided he wanted to ride again. She’s kind of a tough filly, so he ended up riding her and he’s done a great job on her.”
