Hawthorne Harness: Illinois Super Night crowns the best in the state

The 2017 edition of Illinois Super Night took place on Saturday night at Hawthorne Harness, with 11 championship events for 2-year-old, 3-year-old, and older competitors.

Driver Kyle Wilfong was the star of the proceedings, winning three times. Wilfong connected in the $135,000 Fox Valley Flan for 2-year-old trotting fillies with Good Design in 1:58, in the $120,000 Beulah Dygert Memorial for 3-year-old trotting fillies with Annas Lucky Star in 1:56, and in the Tony Maurello Championship for pacing mares with Bucklegirl Bobette in 1:53 3/5.

Driver Kyle Husted also had a pair of championship performances, guiding Gibbs to a 1:52 2/5 score in the $60,000 Robert S. Molaro Championship for older male pacers, and San Antonio Rose to a 1:52 1/5 triumph in the $165,000 Plum Peachy for sophomore pacing fillies.

Tony Morgan and Marcus Miller, who were long-time competitors on the Chicago Circuit before moving their trades east, won a championship apiece, with Morgan annexing the $115,000 Kadabra for rookie trotting colts with Illinimight and Miller bagging the $180,000 Robert F. Carey Memorial for 3-year-old colt pacers with Captain Rhett in 1:50 3/5.

The two 2-year-old pacing championships went to offspring of Yankee Skyscaper, with Fox Valley Gemini (Casey Leonard) posting a 1:53 4/5 decision in the $195,000 Incredible Finale for colts, and Fox Valley Jazzy (Ridge Warren) grabbing the $175,000 Incredible Tillie for fillies in 1:54 3/5.

Rounding out the winners on the night were Picky Picky Valor (Mike Oosting, 1:56 1/5) in the $115,000 Erwin R. Dygert for sophomore trotting colts, and Tricky Nick (Jim Pantaleano, 1:55 3/5) in the $60,000 Plesac for older male trotters.
