Haveyougoneaway puts in stiff half-mile

ELMONT, N.Y. – Haveyougoneaway, the New York-bred filly who won a pair of stakes at Saratoga, including the Grade 1 Ballerina, worked four furlongs in 47 seconds over the Belmont main track Thursday morning. She is preparing for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita on Nov. 5.
With the exercise rider Orlando Tapia maintaining a good hold on Haveyougoneaway, the filly went her first quarter in 23.11 seconds and her second quarter in 23.89.
Trainer Tom Morley said he was looking for a sharp work out of the filly, who went a half-mile in 49.09 seconds a week ago.
“I was very pleased,” Morley said. “To the naked eye, she was aggressive to the pole, on the bridle the whole way. The rider never moved. I wanted something stronger than last week.”
Morely said Haveyougoneaway will likely have two more breezes before shipping to California a week before the race.
Also on the work tab Thursday were Upstart, who went five furlongs in 1:01.06 in preparation for the Grade 2 Kelso, and Sky Gesture, who worked six furlongs in 1:15.88 in preparation for the Grade 1 Frizette, both on Oct. 8. Both horses are trained by Rick Violette, who moved up the workouts to avoid expected rain in the coming days.
