Haveyougoneaway puts in stiff drill for Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint

ELMONT, N.Y. – Haveyougoneaway, a top contender for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, blazed five furlongs in 58.55 seconds over the Belmont Park main track Thursday.
With exercise rider Orlando Tapia in the irons, Haveyougoneaway went her first quarter in 24.85 seconds and got her final three furlongs in 33.70 under mild urging. She galloped out six furlongs in 1:11.31.
It was Haveyougoneaway’s third and most serious work since her victory in the Grade 1 Ballerina at Saratoga on Aug. 27.
Trainer Tom Morley said he told Tapia, “She needs to have a serious piece of work today.”
“She came bubbling right back up out of those two half-miles, and we needed to knock the edge off her and make sure we got plenty of wind in her today,” Morley said. “I thought she was sensational.”
A pair of Dominick Schettino-trained horses broke off for a work about a furlong in front of Haveyougoneaway. Haveyougoneaway caught that pair on the gallop-out.
“For her to make up an eighth of a mile on a pair of breezers going five-eighths probably shows you what sort of form she’s in,” Morley said.

Morley said Haveyougoneaway will have one more half-mile breeze eight or nine days before the Breeders’ Cup and ship to Southern California on Oct. 30. Morley said Haveyougoneaway will just have one gallop over the Santa Anita track the week of the race. The Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint will be run Nov. 5
Morley hopes to have John Velazquez ride Haveyougoneaway, but Velazquez could have a conflict if Curalina is rerouted from the Distaff to the Filly and Mare Sprint. As of Thursday, Morley had Florent Geroux to ride if Velazquez was unavailable.
