HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Have Faith will attempt to keep trainer Dallas Stewart’s strong Oaklawn Park meet rolling Friday when she faces Grade 1 Frizette runner-up Rileytole in the $135,000 Southern Hospitality for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs. The overnight stakes drew a field of seven that includes Sina, who is a half-sister to both Grade 1 winner Alva Starr and Grade 2 winner Cilla, and Carolyncaroline, who seeks to become the fifth next-out winner to emerge from the Astral Spa overnight stakes here Dec. 14. Have Faith is looking for her first win of the meet after a pair of runner-up finishes. “She’s done very well there,” Stewart said earlier this week. “She’s been second both times. I’m very proud of her. I think she’s going to run very, very well. Hopefully, she can get that win.” Have Faith made her first local start Feb. 14 when second to French Friction in the $150,000 Dixie Belle Stakes. In her other appearance, Have Faith was second to multiple stakes winner Little Miss Curlin in a first-level allowance sprint April 2. :: Live racing action at Oaklawn Park! DRF Past Performances and Picks are available now. “I think she likes the track and I think she fits,” said Stewart. Cristian Torres has the mount from post 5 for Holy Cow Stables. Have Faith has bid from off the pace in her races here, and might get a decent setup behind Rileytole, who breaks from post 2 in her first start since the Frizette in October, and Sina, who set the pace in the Grade 1 Spinaway in her last race Aug. 30 at Saratoga. Stewart, a former assistant to the late Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas, is closing out a successful Oaklawn meet. He’s won 12 races from 57 starts, for a 21 percent win rate. His local runners have earned $1.1 million. “We sent some of our best horses there and they did very well,” Stewart said. “My assistant, Marcelino, did a remarkable job. Sometimes, with the weather there, you train to the weather a little bit. I give him credit, and all my whole crew there, it’s just been great, the approach there, what they’ve done. “I spent a lot of time there, worked for Lukas five years there, and I know sometimes the weather can be a little challenging, but Marcelino did a terrific job. I’m very proud of him, and everybody that works for me there.” Oaklawn placed Stewart’s division in the Lukas barn this season, following last summer’s passing of the Hall of Famer. Stewart shares the barn with another former Lukas assistant turned head trainer, Mike Maker. Carolyncaroline, much like Have Faith, can take advantage if the pace is hot Friday. She will start from post 7 under Francisco Arrieta. Carolyncaroline was an uncharacteristic ninth in the Astral Spa, from which winner Counting Stars has come back to take both the Year’s End and Grade 2 Fantasy at Oaklawn. Victory Music, who was third in the Astral Spa, came back in her next start to take the Xtra Heat at Laurel Park. Fourth-place finisher Grace Is Free returned to win the Mockingbird at Oaklawn, and eighth-place finisher Debbie Dolls, a starter allowance at Oaklawn. ◗ Trainer Tom Amoss is scheduled to have his final starter as a trainer Friday in the eighth race with Coastal Breeze. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
