Haulin Ice to be honored as 2024 Arkansas-bred of the year

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Haulin Ice will be honored as the 2024 Arkansas-bred of the year during the annual banquet of the Arkansas Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Horsemen’s Association on March 28, according to the organization’s executive secretary, Deana Echols.
Haulin Ice led all registered Arkansas-breds in earnings last year with $447,350. She is a multiple stakes winner and is scheduled to run Saturday at Oaklawn in the $150,000 Downthedustyroad.
Eugenia Thompson-Benight bred Haulin Ice. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Coal Front, the same sire as Rebel winner Coal Battle.

The banquet will feature a guest speaker, a buffet, a silent auction and the presentation of a number of awards, including breeder of the year, stallion of the year, and broodmare of the year. It will held at the event center in the hotel at Oaklawn. Tickets are $75 and interested parties can RSVP to Echols at (501) 624-6328.

Stewart Elliott honored
Jockey Stewart Elliott, who swept the Oaklawn series for 3-year-olds aboard Smarty Jones in 2004 before the pair went on to win the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, will be honored Saturday at his current base of Sam Houston Race Park.
The track is throwing a birthday party for the rider, who is turning 60. There will be cards for fans to sign and cake for all during an afternoon of racing in which Elliott has six mounts, according to a press release from Sam Houston.
