Sartorialist, Jack Diamond Futurity
Trevor Andrew Reynolds Sartorialist scores a late-running victory in the Jack Diamond Futurity.

Under a perfectly timed ride by Isaias Cardenas, Sartorialist got up in the last few jumps to upset heavily favored Herescomelucky in the $100,000 Jack Diamond Futurity for 2-year-olds colts and geldings at Hastings on Friday evening.

Trailing the field early, Sartorialist began to advance midway down the backstretch. He made a strong move while three-wide around the stretch turn and under strong urging by Cardenas closed with a rush to edge Herescomelucky by a half-length in the 6 1/2-furlong Jack Diamond.

Herescomelucky stalked the early pace, opened up a clear lead midstretch and held on well to finish a length in front of Deputy’s Command, who made a late move to get up for third.

Trained by Dino Condilenios, Sartorialist paid $11.50 as the second choice in the nine-horse field.

The final time was 1:19.05.

Just prior to Sartorialist’s win, odds-on favorite Sunnyside Gal posted a quicker final time of 1:18.15 for 3 1/4- length win over Satellite Debris in the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity for 2-year-old fillies.

With Mario Gutierrez aboard, Sunnyside Gal was in a striking position early, moved into contention while going three-wide around the stretch turn, and then took control of the race at the top of the stretch.

Satellite Debris made a late move to finish second, a half-length in front of Gabitogotherway, who forced the early pace after leaving from the outside post in the 11-horse field.

Trained by Troy Taylor, Sunnyside Gal paid $3.50.
