Hastings: Classic Alley Kat runs away to win Senate Appointee

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Heavily favored Classic Alley Kat set an honest pace on her way to winning her second straight sprint stakes in the $50,000 Senate Appointee for fillies and mares at Hastings Saturday.

With leading rider Mario Gutierrez aboard, Classic Alley Kat posted early fractions of 22.50 and 45.60 under pressure from Tierra Del Feugo. She held a one-length lead going into the stretch and then widened her margin over Tierra Del Feugo to 2 1/2 lengths at the finish. Wind Storm made a late move to finish third. Final time for the 6 1/2 furlongs was 1:16.40.

Trained by Elizabeth Stolzenberg, Classic Alley Kat paid $3.40 and earned $30,000 for her owners, Glen Todd, Patrick Kinsella and Stuart Carmichael.
