Harty has three juveniles ready for three stakes
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLECYPRESS, Calif. – Trainer Eoin Harty could have juveniles in as many as three stakes in the first two weeks of the Santa Anita autumn meeting.
Harty said Sunday that City Plan, the winner of a maiden race at Los Alamitos on Sept. 7, is a candidate for the Grade 1 FrontRunner Stakes at 1 1/16 miles at Santa Anita on Sept. 30. The winner of the FrontRunner receives a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar on Nov. 4.
Kylemore, who won a maiden race on turf at Del Mar on Sept. 3, may start in the $100,000 Zuma Beach Stakes at a mile on turf at Santa Anita on Oct. 9. The recent Irish import Deep Breath will be nominated for the $100,000 Surfer Girl Stakes for fillies at a mile on turf the same day.
City Plan was sixth in his debut at 57-1 in a six-furlong maiden race at Del Mar on Aug. 20 and won a one-mile race Sept. 7 by a head at 19-1 under apprentice jockey Laura Werner. City Plan, by Street Sense, is owned by Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolpin Racing.
“He’s bred to run a route,” Harty said. “He didn’t win easily, but he wasn’t tired after the race.
“I’ll put a couple of works in him and see where it goes from there.”
Kylemore won his second start, and only appearance at Del Mar, on Sept. 3. By Tiz Wonderful, Kylemore was fifth in his debut at Santa Anita in July.
Deep Breath, a filly by Bated Breath, won 2 of 3 starts in Ireland. She won her last start in that country, a minor handicap at seven furlongs on turf at Galway on Aug. 5.
“I’ve got time to get a few works in her,” Harty said.
