Harrington: Gals get it done in DSBF for pacing fillies
The first leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund action for 3-year-olds continued Tuesday at Harrington Raceway with a pair of $20,000 divisions for pacing fillies.
There were no surprises in the initial split as Odds On Racing's Odds On Surfer Gal ($2.60, Corey Callahan) cruised to an easy win over Bank The Win and Bluffs Crush for trainer Tony Alagna in 1:55. The Badlands Hanover filly improved to three-for-six lifetime.
The second split featured two of the top Delaware fillies from last season, Shabby Chic and Gaitway Gal, with the latter prevailing at 6-1 in 1:54 2/5. Gaitway Gal ($14, Pat Berry) challenged first-over boldly after heavily-favored Shabby Chic set a pedestrian-like pace of 29, 58 2/5 and 1:27 2/5. Gaitway Gal began to edge clear near the top of the stretch and drew away for her seventh career win. Shabby Chic held second with Tahoe third. Trained by Jeff Smith for the Gty Stable, the Delmarvalous-sired filly notched her second win of the season.
In the overnight feature, the $20,000 Mares Open, James Magno and Joseph Fonte's Incaseyoudidntknow ($4.20, Jim Morand) notched her fourth straight win in 1:52 1/5 over Feeling Sweet and Pass Line Bluechip. The Les Givens trainee sustained a big trip in which she wore down pace-setter Feeling Sweet first-over in achieving her 12th career win.
