Harrington: Clear Vision wins Quillen battle over Foiled Again
This year’s Bobby Quillen Memorial at Harrington Raceway was one that will not be soon forgotten.
Two pacing heavyweights, Clear Vision and Foiled Again, dueled throughout the stretch with Clear Vision prevailing narrowly at the wire, equaling his track record of 1:49 2/5 in the 7th annual $223,500 Bobby Quillen Memorial.
Both horses are trained by Ron Burke.
Foiled Again (Yannick Gingras), in pursuit of his third Quillen crown, left from post eight and made the lead in 26 2/5 seconds. He marched through fractions of 55 2/5 and 1:22 3/5 while Clear Vision (Brett Miler) grinded away first-over before a head and head epic stretch duel that left the Harrington fans in awe as Clear Vision triumphed. Foiled Again fought gamely throughout as he has done countless times in his illustrious career that has made him the richest pacer of all-time with more than $5.3 million earned.
“That was an incredible horse race,” said winning driver Brett Miller. “It was like a replay of the Canadian Pacing Derby with A Rocknroll Dance. Foiled Again is never easy to get by and I knew it was going to take a big effort to get there. [Clear Vision] may be the best horse I’ve ever driven.”
Clear Vision recorded his 23rd lifetime win and saw his lifetime earnings soar to more than $1.6 million. Heston Blue Chip finished third.
The race honored the memory of the late Delaware legislator Bobby Quillen, who passed away in 2004. Quillen was a regular at the racetrack and was a long-time member of the Delaware legislature who always represented the best interests of horsemen. A number of his former colleagues were in the winner’s circle as well as his sister Grace Wanda and brothers Frank and Francis.
Allan Davis had four driving wins on the night, including a win in the $19,000 Open with Rock On Moe. Tony Morgan had three winners.
