Harrah's Philadelphia: Tetrick scores nine 2-year-old qualifying wins on Tuesday
The 2-year-olds went in 12 qualifying heats at Harrah’s Philadelphia on Tuesday morning. Driver Tim Tetrick was the dominant force, winning nine of the dozen freshman contests – after being originally named on exactly half, 27 of 54 of the entrants.
Tetrick won all three of the events for 2-year-old trotting males, with the fastest being the 2:00 4/5 clocking turned in by Fashion Green, a Greenshoe – Fashion Athena colt who came home in 59 4/5 after a pocket trip to win for trainer Jim Campbell, next month to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame, and Fashion Farms LLC.
Trainer Syl King Jr. swept the two contests for baby trotting fillies, with the faster being the Tetrick-guided K J The Thirteenth, by Il Mago – Kid Sister, who stepped her last quarter in 29 4/5 en route to a 2:04 2/5 victory for Pamela Wagner and Scott Woogen. K J The Thirteenth, third in her first start, was the only winner not making her or his career bow Tuesday.
The fastest mile of the day came in the baby colt pace, and it was the Cattlewash – Twin B Elite gelding Twin Fury who notched it, going wire-to-wire despite the outside post six in 1:57 2/5, back fractions in 56 2/5 - 28. Andrew McCarthy drove the Darran Cassar trainee for the partnership of Jessica Cassar, Barry Charles, William Rochetti Jr., and Robert Muscara. Another in this section who now has a sub-2:00 score to his credit is the Papa Rob Hanover – All Cool Hanover colt Currys Flurry (Tetrick) in 1:59.
The fastest 2-year-old pacing filly was Stevie Hanover, a daughter of Betting Line – She’s A Fan, who came home in 57 4/5 – 28 1/5 to win in 1:58 for trainer Jamie Sullivan and owner Frank Chick. Tetrick drove that filly, and also the American Ideal – Ms Cheesman distaff Mrs Cheese, winning out of the pocket in 1:58 4/5 – 28 1/5 for trainer Scott DiDomenico (who sent out three winners) and his Triple D Stables Inc. Also already a member of the 2:00 Club is the Captain Crunch – Speedo Miss filly Crystal Coast (Andrew McCarthy) after a 1:58 3/5 win.
