Harrah's Philadelphia: Pennsylvania Sire Stakes wins go to Warrawee Ubeaut, Philly Hanover

Defending Breeders Crown champion and Dan Patch Award winner Warrawee Ubeaut was sharp off the bench in winning the first of two $83,240 Pennsylvania Sire Stakes splits for 3-year-old pacing fillies on Friday afternoon at Harrah's Philadelphia. Philly Hanover, the runner-up in the sire stakes final last year, was an impressive first-over winner in the other division.
Driven by Yannick Gingras, Warrawee Ubeaut found a seat in fourth from post seven in her test, got around a breaking Trillions Hanover (Andrew McCarthy) going to the 27 2/5 opening quarter, and then made her way to the front heading to the 55 4/5 half. Gingras was able to back down the three-quarters to 1:24 flat, and then Warrawee Ubeaut kicked home in 27 2/5 to defeat early leader Stonebridge Soul (Dexter Dunn) by a length and a quarter in 1:51 2/5. Rockn Philly (Tim Tetrick) finished third.
Warrawee Ubeaut is a daughter of Sweet Lou trained by Ron Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC., Phil Collura, Jandt Silva Purnel & Libby, and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. This was her eighth career victory, and she has now earned $688,615. She was the 1-2 choice and paid $3.00 to win.
In the second section, Sylph Hanover (Matt Kakaley), last year's sire stakes champion for the division, fired through from the pole to lead to the 27 1/5 opening quarter, briefly let outside attacker Sweet Heaven (Corey Callahan) go, then re-moved to the top. Sylph Hanover would go on to hit the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:23, but she was under siege from a first-over Philly Hanover (Dunn), who had pulled from third near the half, at three-quarters. Philly Hanover forged her way by on the rim on the final bend, then put Sylph Hanover away in the lane, going on to win by 2 1/4 lengths in 1:51 3/5. Sweeter Lulu (Pat Berry) closed from seventh to third in the last quarter.
The victorious daughter of Captaintreacherous is co-owned by trainer Ron Coyne Jr., who shares ownership with Blair Corbeil. Philly Hanover is now a four-time winner in her life, and she has put away $167,035. She was the 3-5 favorite and returned $3.20 to win.
