Harrah's Philadelphia: Odds On Hail Mary, Quick E reign in Liberty Bell
Odds On Hail Mary and Quick E came out on top in two $35,000 Liberty Bell Stakes divisions for 3-year-old filly pacers on Sunday afternoon at Harrah's Philadelphia.
Sent off at 1-9 in the first grouping, Odds On Hail Mary (Scott Zeron) brushed from third to first past the 28 1/5 opening quarter, and after she cut middle-half fractions of 56 4/5 and 1:23 3/5, she drew off in a 27 4/5 final kicker to tally by four lengths in 1:51 2/5. Hello Yes Hi (Tony Morgan) got up for second and Proud Mary (Todd McCarthy) collected third.
A daughter of Heston Blue Chip bred by Let It Ride Stables and O'Sullivan Racing Inc., Odds On Hail Mary is trained by Linda Toscano for owner Odds On Racing. Odds On Hail Mary has a summary of 8-2-4 from 19 appearances, has banked $307,743 and paid $2.10 to win.
The Zeron/Toscano duo went for the sweep with C Is For Cookie in the other test. She raced in second and third behind Quick E (McCarthy) and My Little Captain (Jack Pelling) to the 27 second quarter and 54 3/5 half, then got going first-over on the way to the 1:23 3/5 three-quarters. C Is For Cookie forged her way into the lead on the rim on the final bend, but in the stretch McCarthy sent Quick E into the passing lane, and she had the best kick late to win by a length and a quarter in 1:52 1/5. C Is For Cookie had to settle for runner-up honors and My Little Captain faded to third.
