Ken Hanover and driver Tim Tetrick rallied off a live cover trip to capture Sunday's $100,000 Joseph Auger Memorial at Harrah’s Philadelphia. Making just his second start of the season and leaving from post eight, Ken Hanover outfinished Mossdale Ben N in a tight finish, completing the mile in 1:49 2/5. Mossdale Ben N and driver Jimmy Marohn Jr. blasted from mid-pack to take instant control as the gate sprung open. For Once Inmy Life with Jordan Stratton crossed into the pocket quickly inside Ken Hanover, with race favorite Maximus Miki and Scott Zeron leaving between horses but waiting to make his move towards the front. Mossdale Ben N had most in line through the 26 2/5 first fraction as Tetrick placed Ken Hanover along the pylons behind Coaches Corner. Maximus Miki needed a full three-eighths of a mile before clearing the lead, and though he got the half in 54 2/5, would have little time to rest. Jason Bartlett, with Coaches Corner, made certain the next fractions would be accelerated as he pushed his charge to gain even-terms with the pace-setter as Ken Hanover drafted second-over and Byethemissal rode third-up. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter The pack tightened at three-quarters in 1:21 4/5, and Tetrick moved Ken Hanover three-wide on the final turn before he swept past the dueling leaders. Mossdale Ben N needed to wait for the passing lane, and that stunted his momentum enough. Once free he charged home, but came up a bit short in the photo of Ken Hanover. For Once Inmy Life and Stratton veered off the pylons on the final turn and found a seam to gain the show spot, with Coaches Corner fourth and Bythemissal fifth. Trained and part owned by trainer Roland Maller along with co-owners Patrick Leavitt, William Jordan and Dennis Osterholt, Ken Hanover, a 6-year-old son of Captaintreacherous, won for the 23rd time in his career and returned $9.60 to win. "My horse is a good closer. He likes a target," said Tetrick following the victory. "Today we got a pretty good trip and it worked out for him."
