Harrah's Philadelphia: Friday's handle exceeds $1 million mark

Harrah's Philadelphia enjoyed its third million-dollar handle day of 2021 during the Friday afternoon card, as a total of $1,027,659 was sent through the windows by Philly's fans.

On the racetrack, there were a quartet of $12,600 events for horses looking to make strides up the class ladder.

The two paces were divided by sex, and in the event for males the Somebeachsomewhere sophomore colt Carbine showed his dominance as he sped home in 27 3/5 to post a 1:52 triumph. Coming off a fifth in an Adios elimination where he missed making the final by only 1 1/2 lengths, Carbine proved have to have too much for the opposition, finishing 1 1/2 lengths clear of Louie The Looper for driver Todd McCarthy, trainer Tony Alagna, and the hot ownership package of Let It Ride Stables Inc., Bottom Line Racing LLC., and Howard Taylor.

In the section for pacing females, the Sweet Lou 3-year-old miss Briar secured a pocket journey, then closed along the inside to defeat Remy Aurora by three-quarters of a length in 1:54 3/5, a new mark. David Miller was in the sulky behind the Ron Coyne Jr. trainee; his Ron Coyne Stables Inc. shares the ownership in the winner with Blair Corbeil, Mike McAllister, and Edward Pachuta.

The first of the two trotting contests went to the Amigo Hall mare Tequila N Roses, who raced just off a front-end fight and then caught pace-setting Tranquility K by three-quarters of a length in 1:55 3/5 for driver Vinny Ginsburg and trainer / lessee Teresa Willabus, giving the 4-year-old two wins in her last three starts.

In the other section, the Chapter Seven 3-year-old gelding Steel took advantage of a drop in company from the New York stakes crowd, making two moves to the lead in a fast pace and then winning by open lengths in a lifetime-best of 1:55 1/5 for driver Andy Miller, trainer Julie Miller, and the ownership of Pinske Stables and Crawford Farms Racing.
