Race 1 - Claiming $10,000
7 - LOOKINFORADVENTURE fared pretty well at the $12.5k level in the summer, and he did so from a variety of trips. mind he didn't lack per se in his last couple, but failed to work within striking range. Easier await. 6 - CHARGER BLUE CHIP looks to return to winning form after a clunker last out. He won from on the lead and a chasing role two and three back. 3 - NEEDLESS TO SAY likewise drops to a winning level after only managing an even finish from astern in his last. He's capable, but will need a fair bit to go his way with all likelihood.
Race 2 - F&M Claiming $12,500
1 - ENCHANTED EVA ascended steadily to victory at this level in her last two Pennsylvania outings, and she gets a pass for her Sept. 11 try at M1 on account of early exertion and slightly tougher competition. Pole gives Callahan tactical liberties. 6 - ENGLISH ROSE N also seeks a third win in four tires, and boasts similar ability to take air as Enchanted Eva. The wider draw presents a bit of an obstacle, especially in a race with a lot of early pace. 7 - GATORS BEN WINNING fought hard at Pocono last week, but was ground down by Enchanted Eva in a sustained duel. Before that, she held her ground in two straight claiming events. Capable with her 'A' game.
Race 3 - Non-Winners 1 Race
6 - FATHER OF IRELAND was just eclipsed after working to the lead two back, and since chased well to save second at 38-1. He boasts the best form of any in this group; plenty to like. 1 - KEEPER OF SECRETS stalked along for minors in each of his last three since adding hopples. Pole keeps him close in this manageable spot. 3 - JEAN JEANIE won a qualifier by a pretty clear margin after struggling for her previous connections. Raw speed from earlier lines is ample; must stay flat.
Race 4 - Claiming $10,000
4 - NEAT won well locally two back, and looks to return to previous form after a brutal uncovered grind at Pocono stung him. Kinder draw and Tetrick should both help. 1 - SWEET TALKIN SATIN lifted late after being forced wide in his last. Before that, he pressed and stalked his way to three straight near misses at the level at Pocono. Pole gets him closer early. 5 - OWN IT has been fourth or better in his last four at this level, all from just off the front flight. Last week, he overcame serious traffic to save the third spot. Mind value on the change in connections.
Race 5 - F&M Non-Winners $7,000 Last 5 Starts
1 - IDEAL LIFESTYLE A steps down again after showing improved chasing ability off overland trips in her last two. She's one of two to continue trending down in class, but her cosy spot and Tim's choice give her the edge. 2 - MADAME LEZA A rose to this level on arrival last week, and she did well to force a :27 4/5 third quarter before flattening off the home turn. Capable if close early; draw helps her cause. 4 - MCCOOLEN made her presence felt late last week after lifting mildly for minors against a good bit tougher. Capable stayer from anywhere in the pack. 8 - SLICK ARTIST A returns after chasing OK at Yonkers but has to contend with a wide draw, and 7 - JIVE DANCING A bumps up slightly on arrival after lifting late from astern into third over three turns.
Race 6 - F&M Non-Winners $10,000 Last 5 Starts
5 - QUEEN LOSTRIS N just missed similar via a game first-over try last week, and 7 - ANNIE HILL was the one subjected to Queen Lostris N's sustained pressure in a narrow defeat. As such, they're my top calls coming right back. Another one worth a look is 6 - SHEIKH YABOOTY N, who won her most recent M1 qualifier via a sustained first-over advance. Here's a look at her most recent races before leaving New Zealand:
• Jan. 31, over 2,000m at Manawatu (900m track): Settled third-over after a back-row start, pushed three-wide at the 1,200m, pushed to a joint lead at the bell, duelled and accelerated clear with 500, to go, and held sway by a diminishing 1-1/4 lengths while kept to task.
• Jan. 18, over 1,700m at Cambridge (1,000m track): Secured the pocket from the pole, was boxed immediately, aimed to the open stretch off a sustained duel, lifted to the lead with 70m to go, accelerated away while urged by three-quarters of a length.
• Jan. 11, over 2,200m at Cambridge — after racing the day prior: Chased three-wide flow from the outermost post, was towed into first-over position with 1,700m to go, intensified pressure with 700m to go and ground to a joint lead on the final turn, was rebuffed by the widening pacesetter, and narrowly protected second while driven, 3-3/4 lengths behind the victorious favourite.
Race 7 - F&M Non-Winners 3 Races or $30,000
1 - MOANING LISA rallied well for second behind the tough Hen Party in the NY Sire Stakes final 18 days ago in what was a markedly improved outing from minor placings earlier in the season. Switch to three turns should boost raw speed; easier await here. 7 - SOMEBEACHSOMEFRA turned up the pressure in a :27 3/5 third quarter last week and pushed hard to just miss. She ground her way to victory over just easier at Pocono both three and six back. Improving. 4 - MBT also beat N2L company at Pocono just three starts back, but since has had a bit of trouble at this level since arriving. Still, pressing and even chasing ability are noted. Minor option with ideal circumstances.
Race 8 - F&M Non-Winners $14,500 Last 5 Starts, 7 Races or $70,000
2 - APPLE HANOVER hit the board in four straight starts at this level and the one below, and her mid-:27 closing quarters of late represent the strongest late kick of anyone in this field. Inside draw plays well to her preference for being near the pace. 6 - ANYTIME N rose to this level two back and set most of the pace before Caviart Cherie upended her in deep stretch. Since then, she pressed a :54 2/5 half from the eight-hole at Harrington before plummeting to a long last. Every chance to rebound in this return outing. 1 - ROYALTYWESTHO struggled to get involved at this level two back, but converted from the pocket in her fourth-level assignment last week. The pole can serve to keep her close to the action with ease on the step back up.
Race 9 - Non-Winners 1 Race
7 - WARRAWEE VICTOR hit the board in each of his last three outings, and nearly lasted on the lead last week. Tetrick opts back aboard this likely lone speed despite the draw. 2 - SWEET SUCCESS debuts for Peña after a pair of respectable closing efforts in qualifiers. Cosy draw should keep him close with ease. 4 - GET ALONG weakened on arrival two weeks ago, but held his own in early-season stake assignments when on or near the lead. Gains Simon.
Race 10 - F&M Non-Winners $4,000 Last 5 Starts
2 - AMANDEROSA was trapped on the pegs behind a badly tiring pacesetter in her last race a fortnight ago, and when she finally had room at the top of the stretch, she simply couldn't get geared back up. Tetrick stays with the 20-time winner over three others in this group. 4 - JANUARY A parried pressure in a bottom-level event three back, and most recently chased respectably for third in a $12.5k claiming event. She moves laterally into this race; forgive her Sept. 16 line owing to the wide draw. 1 - SUDDEN PASSING returns to action after a respectable qualifier. As recently as August, she more than held her own with significantly tougher fields. Mind value on this third straight step down.
Race 11 - Non-Winners 1 Race
3 - INCENTIVE almost lasted in his local debut after toiling in open stakes at M1. Melander trainee figures to be sharper coming right back in a field of mostly rookies. 7 - YUCATAN PARTY MAN landed close on arrival, but failed to follow through on a second move in pursuit of Ceffyl Dwr. He fared more than respectably in Excelsior company from stalking and pressing trips alike before that. 2 - REGAL PRINCE invades from the fair circuit and debuts for LeBlanc after winning at Gratz and chasing OK at Bloomsburg the week before. Should be close with ease from this kind draw; late kick will improve on the wider and more heavily banked turns.
Race 12 - F&M Non-Winners $10,000 Last 5 Starts
4 - INFINITE SYMBOL A makes her second local start today, and does so after pushing a :27 2/5 third quarter in defeat to Brunhilda one level above this. Ordinarily, a drop in class from a solid line would be enough for a bet-back, but five of her six rivals are dropping in class, too. I expect her to be stronger coming right back especially after staying on for third from that tough first-over grind, and Tetrick takes over the lines. 5 - BARON REMY absorbed most of Infinite Symbol A's pressure before Brunhilda nipped her in the last strides last week. She only missed top-level foes by a length the week before. Versatile sort commands respect, but price will likely suffer. 1 - QUEEN OF THE PRIDE invades from Pocono, where she chased tougher for third in two starts since leaving the Midwest. Pole keeps the solid stayer close with ease in her local debut.
Race 13 - F&M Non-Winners 1 Race
2 - MISS TANGO was second in three of her last four tries, all against older company. Tetrick stays with the DiDomenico rookie after a solid brushing attempt last out and a gritty effort on the far turn after clearing from post 8 and being headed briefly the week before. 3 - SO MIKI HANOVER drew off in both her qualifiers for Leamon. Stretch speed so far encourages; demand value. 5 - KEEP WATCHING was gathered in off the home turn last out, but pressed and stalked her way into the money twice before that. Minor player at a healthy price with the right circumstances.
Race 14 - F&M Non-Winners $2,500 Last 5 Starts
6 - HOW ABOUD MURPH bottoms out after only managing minors in claiming company of late. She swept from last to prevail seven back. Far easier await the 9-time winner. 5 - DARKSHADEOFPALE N overcame severe road trouble to save fourth on debut for Daley last week after toiling in pursuit of a quickening pace two back. Likewise drops in class. 2 - MILIONDOLAR BEAUTY invades from Tioga and debuts for Peña. Variables abound; mind value.
