Best Bet: Abigail Dawn (Race 7)
Spot Play: Its Mesmerise N (Race 9)
Race 1 - Claiming $10,000
3 - MR DISOMMA earned minors in $15k claiming company at Woodbine this winter. He debuts for Hartline off a respectable qualifier, and Tetrick takes over the lines. 5 - FLASH LAUXMONT rises into a manageable $10k group in his second start since February. He chased evenly while wide for the last quarter to save fourth in that first race back, and now he gains Callahan. 4 - SPEEDLING was no threat in a pair of $10k starter allowances, but this raw speed stacks up well in this group. Switch to Nap can help this one get involved more directly early on.
Race 2 - F&M Claiming $12,500
2 - THE LADY SHERIFF moves laterally second out after wiring conditioned foes at Yonkers on debut for Garcia. This switch to three turns will boost her raw speed, and she has surely proven her versatility. 7 - MCCOOLEN drops in for a tag after traffic trouble cost her a chance against much tougher two weeks ago. After being shuffled to last, she hooked four-wide in order to make belated mild gains. 3 - GLORIA PIERRE chased evenly from midfield in her lone qualifier since the shutdown. She tackled just tougher with mild success in January; pressing and stalking ability noted.
Race 3 - Non-Winners 1 Race
5 - SWEET MILO cleared, yielded, and held third at 26-1 after being left behind in a :55 1/5 closing half. Post relief can help him stay sharper longer in this more manageable group. 1 - JK LUCKY CHARMS was even in his seasonal debut after floating into midfield. Pole can keep him closer, but stakes lines from his 2-year-old season are likely to hurt his value. 2 - KENTUCKY PROUD adds Lasix after finishing fourth in the same race Revolt exits. He only missed Sweet Milo by three-quarters of a length.
Race 4 - Claiming $10,000
2 - BOBBIES POWER PLAY returns to action after nearly 10 months off. He closed 2019 with a $10k claiming win, and he qualified respectably on June 19 after a long spell. Tetrick takes over the drive on the 28-time winner. 3 - ALL MUSIC rallied off cover into a no-match third at 41-1 last week after traffic hindered his chances the week before. It seems he's working back into form; closer stalking position can aid. 8 - RUFO has been fourth or better in his last five starts for Faurot, all at this level. He won from the pocket in November, and more recently he chased evenly off cover and saved third out of traffic after working to earn the pocket. Solid value option.
Race 5 - F&M Non-Winners $4,000 Last 5 Starts
6 - BRUNHILDA landed in the pocket from post 8 and chased for third behind a tough Amanderosa last week. Cut back in class and mild post relief can lift her the rest of the way. 3 - ENGLISH ROSE N steps down as well after an even but no-chance Pocono line. Nap opts on over two others. 8 - CHECK MACH made a ton of ground in her return outing at Yonkers on June 30. She's back with similar and can be the key to big Hi-5 value with a similar effort. 7 - HEAVENLY BET drops a level after clearing from post 8 and folding on the far turn, and 4 - VICTORIA'S MUNKY can crack the top five again at a price with another patient stalking trip.
Race 6 - F&M Non-Winners 1 Race
6 - FIRESIDE launched a three-wide push a quarter from home on debut, and she ended up a strong second by way of a :27 3/5 last quarter. Raw speed and late kick go unrivalled in this group; expect stronger second out. 7 - HURRIKANEMYSHANNON pressed and faded at Pocono last out, but sustained gradual progress at big odds the week before. This group shapes up as more manageable at first glance. 2 - ISETTE HANOVER lost cover on entry to the far turn last week, made a brief bid for second, and ultimately was outkicked off cover by Fireside. They meet again after only being separated by 1-1/2 lengths last out.
Race 7 - F&M Non-Winners $10,000 Last 5 Starts
The opening leg of today's Pick-4 has a host of viable options, and as such has the potential of yielding value right off the bat. 3 - ABIGAIL DAWN, my top pick, is the 5-2 morning line favourite, but she did well to overcome a break and push hard into Shes Pukka N a level above this one last week. Easier await second out. 6 - ROCK N SHARD N reached off cover to beat just easier at Pocono last week, and she figures to build on stalking and closing ability third out. 2 - NORMAN'S MADELINE can benefit from post and class relief alike after aiming wide and only managing to pass a couple foes.
Race 8 - F&M Non-Winners 3 Races or $30,000
3 - SAIL BY was a minor stakes player at 2, and her Meadowlands qualifiers behind Lady Lou indicate sharpness and fitness. Comfortable debut spot awaits the daughter of Captaintreacherous. 8 - TUAPEKA JESSIE N rallied into a no-match second in her U.S. debut - Baby Your The Best was simply too tough. Be wary of value second out, but by all means include. 1 - WINDFALL PROFITS won at this level two weeks ago, but cedes a significant speed edge to the aforementioned pair. In that win, she angled wide with three-eighths to go and struck the front at the sixteenth pole with a good bit left in reserve. Can she step up her game for these?
Race 9 - F&M Non-Winners $14,000 Last 5 Starts, 7 Races, or $70,000
2 - ITS MESMERISE N lifted off good second-over cover and scooted clear in the last 100 metres of her last Menangle start to win in 1:53 1/5. The week before that, she angled out of the pocket to just miss in a 1:51 1/5 mile - she paced home in :26 4/5. New arrival in the Cassar barn isn't lacking for anything. 4 - BYE BYE FELICIA parried sustained pressure to win at odds-on last out after similar pressure softened her up at M1 the start before. She splits the difference here, and Joe opts on. 8 - SHE'S ALLRIGHT chased down a similar group on June 28 as the one Bye Bye Felicia beat on June 21. She proved leaving ability from the outside the week before; minor option with a similar journey.
Race 10 - Non-Winners 1 Race
7 - LEVATOR rallied well into a no-match second in his career debut. Great springboard outing for the son of Muscle Hill. 8 - THE NEXT ONE is the likely horse to beat after two respectable outings so far this year, but she got steamrolled by Tuscany off the home turn while odds-on last week. Be wary of underlay potential. 4 - SCIROCCO PATRICK won his last qualifier in preparation for his 3-year-old campaign. He chased for minors in stakes as a rookie; he can do the same today with just a little more oomph.
Race 11 - F&M Non-Winners $7,000 Last 5 Starts
2 - DOROTHY'S LEGACY surged late to just miss a tough Amanderosa last week after kicking cover at the quarter pole. All things considered, she handled the double jump well. Every chance to keep on building here. 1 - CRISP MANE moves the other direction on the class ladder, and gets the kindest draw of the three to drop in class. She was just even with tougher after ducking excess cover; the pole should serve to help her land closer to the early action. 8 - HURRICANE CALLEIGH showed mild pace when room availed up the inside last week. Last time she raced at this level, she only missed by a nose.
Race 12 - F&M Non-Winners 5 Races or $50,000
3 - CAVIART HEATHER was a stakes also-ran late in her rookie year, but hit the board in nearly half of her seasonal outings. Gaitway qualifiers indicate solid raw speed and late kick, and easier await her today. McCarthy opts on. 5 - AFFLUENT SEELSTER worked to set ambitious fractions on arrival two weeks ago, but gave way under pressure in upper stretch. Now she gains Tetrick. 8 - TAKE ABIT OF LIFE circled three-wide into the far turn to make mild late ground on debut for Burke two weeks ago. Given that she only missed Betterthanamisus N by a head for third and covered a lot more extra ground, this one gets the nod from me as far as minors go.
Race 13 - F&M Non-Winners $2,500 Last 5 Starts
3 - MARY CATHERINE A pushed early and rode the pocket to a good third in her return outing on June 19. Post relief can sharpen her up late as she bottoms out. 8 - ALKIPPE almost lasted on the point two weeks ago, but was duelled down off the home turn by Dorothy's Legacy after working clear early. Expect stronger coming back. 1 - TIME AND MOTION left hard for the pocket in that same race, and tired after chasing duelling leaders to the far turn. Pole makes for an easier task today.
Race 14 - F&M Non-Winners 3 Races or $30,000
2 - ANNABELLE HANOVER can benefit from post relief and this being her second start back since November. She hit the exacta in 5 of 9 starts in a stakes-heavy rookie campaign. Class edge duly noted. 3 - TENTHOUSAND ANGELS left for the pocket two weeks ago, and held third at 10-1 after tiring amid her chase from the pocket. 7 - ARTFUL DEAL was used to clear from post 7 in her return effort and ultimately softened up by sustained pressure on the far turn. Similar circumstances await today, yet she remains a viable minor option at a healthy price.
