Harrah's Philadelphia: Ammo, Confederate turn in sharp qualifier
Ammo and Confederate, sons of Sweet Lou who were respectively first and second in the Breeders Crown Final for 2-year-old pacing colts in 2022, finished in those same positions during a 1:51 Tuesday morning qualifier at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
Drawing just inside his main rival in post five, Ammo was sent to the front by driver David Miller and never looked back while posting fractions of 27, 56 3/5 and 1:22 4/5 (backstretch tailwind) en route to the swift clocking for trainer Joe Holloway and the ownership of Val D’Or Farms and Ted Gewertz. Confederate rode a tight pocket under a strong hold by driver Tim Tetrick, finishing 1 3/4 lengths back at the wire in his seasonal debut. Ammo had a second behind Voufelakas in a 1:52 2/5 qualifier at The Meadowlands prior to this race.
Trainer Holloway showed another solid sophomore winner in Cantgetuoutamymind, a daughter of Always B Miki (whom Holloway trained at 2 and 3), winning in 1:52 3/5 with a 54 4/5 back half. Also driven by Miller and owned by Roll The Dice Stable, Cantgetuoutamymind showed her potential with a 1:51 2/5 qualifying win at Lexington at 2.
The Harrah’s qualifiers can be seen on the PHHA website, www.phha,org.
Philly will be racing four days this week with the addition of a live 12:40 card on Kentucky Derby Saturday.
