Harrah's Hoosier Park: Why Not Now tallies in Jenna's Beach Boy

Indiana-bred and sired Why Not Now got up from the two-hole in the lane and won the $127,000 Jenna's Beach Boy for sophomore pacing colts and geldings on Friday night at Harrah's Hoosier Park in a final time of 1:48 2/5.
Driver Lewayne Miller zipped Why Not Now out from post five and was the early leader, but Yannick Gingras and race favorite Christchurch wanted no part of the pocket on the first turn and moved around Why Not Now beyond a rapid 25 2/5 opening quarter. Christchurch would go on to reach the half in 53 3/5, with A Cool Moment (Joey Putnam) trying a first-over bid from fourth past that marker, followed in the outer tier by Coach Stefanos (Trace Tetrick).
Christchurch remained on the engine to the 1:21 three-quarters and into the lane, but Miller swung Why Not Now to the outside coming off the final bend and went by Christchurch with little dispute in the upper part of the stretch. Coach Stefanos put in a rally to the wire after going three-wide off the stalled A Cool Moment and was the only one with a shot at Why Not Now inside the last eighth, but he was unable to get by Why Not Now, falling three-quarters of a length short. Christchurch wound up third.

"I wanted to get away close. I talked to Dylan (trainer Dylan Davis) and he thought that was the thing to do. He kind of warned me about Christchurch, so it worked out great," Miller said post-race.
Davis also co-owns Why Not Now, an Always A Virgin colt bred by Dustin Miller, with partners Howard Taylor and Jeffrey Billings. Why Not Now has a record of 6-6-4 from 21 career starts, has now pocketed $355,380 and returned $9.80 to win as the 7-2 second choice.
