Harrah's Hoosier Park: Spoiled Princess crowned in Crossroads Of America

Spoiled Princess rebounded after finishing sixth as the second choice in the Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Filly Trot final by converting a second-over journey into a 1:52 2/5 victory in the $100,000 Crossroads Of America on Friday night at Harrah's Hoosier Park.

Dexter Dunn left a bit from post eight and was able to slide down into fifth, while Spirit Of Deo (Anthony MacDonald) and Guinevere Hall (Peter Wrenn) shot out fast from posts one and seven, respectively. Spirit Of Deo yielded for the pocket behind Guinevere Hall after the 27 second opening quarter, and Guinevere Hall was able to keep the top spot to the 55 4/5 half.

Just before the fillies reached that half-mile point, David Miller brought Crucial to the outside out of the third position, and she came with a quick burst that carried her into the lead on the final turn. After Crucial took over, that left Rock Swan (Trace Tetrick) first-over and Princess Deo second-over, and Rock Swan advanced to threaten Crucial at the 1:23 4/5 three-quarters.

Crucial was able to withstand and repel Rock Swan's challenge, but Dunn had Spoiled Princess finishing well after he moved her over off the cover, and she surged past Crucial in mid-stretch. May Baby (James Yoder), who raced back in eighth on the inside, had trot in the passing lane, but Spoiled Princess had the jump on her and got to the wire a length and a half to the good. May Baby was the runner-up, followed by Crucial, Spirit Of Deo, and Sans Defaut (Brian Sears).

"Last week Dexter said that she got to running in a little bit in the last turn, and she lost a little bit of her momentum," trainer Nancy Takter said about the Breeders Crown. "We put a gaiting pole on her this week, so she was able to manuever that last turn a little bit better, and obviously it helped out.

"She came to me in great shape, and she was sound and everything. I'm the fortunate one that's just been able to race her the last couple weeks when she's been sharp. She won her last start for Nifty (Norman) at Delaware, Ohio, so she was coming into form. She's a super nice filly. She's game."

Black Horse Racing and Christina Takter own Spoiled Princess, a daughter of Trixton. This was her ninth career win, and she has now earned $226,136. She was the 6-5 favorite and returned $4.60 to win.

"Lucky her, she gets to go on vacation tomorrow. I wish I could join her, but she's going to Kentuckiana Farms for some well-deserved vacation," Nancy Takter added. "Then I guess we'll decide if we're going to bring her back next year or if she's going to be bred."
