Harrah's Hoosier Park: Shishito, Mystical Carrie score in The Pegasus
Sophomore fillies of both gaits were involved in Grand Circuit action on the Breeders Crown undercard on Friday night at Harrah's Hoosier Park as two divisions of The Pegasus, one $60,000 tilt for the trotters and a single $50,000 grouping for the pacers, took place.
Race favorite Shishito (Yannick Gingras) made front past the 26 3/5 opening quarter in the trot, then yielded to Sister Sledge (David Miller) prior to the 55 1/5 half. Sister Sledge went on to three-quarters in 1:24 1/5 and still led into the stretch before being overtaken in the passing lane by Shishito. From there, Shishito had to fend off a bid by Sans Defaut (Matt Kakaley), which she was able to do, winning by a quarter of a length in 1:52 2/5. A Fancy Face (Chris Page) was third.
Nancy Takter trains Shishito, a daughter of Father Patrick, for owners Black Horse Racing and John Fielding. Shishito won for the seventh time in her career, and she has now earned $327,383. She paid $4.20 to win.
Grace Rocks (Joey Putnam) roared through panels of 25 4/5, 53 2/5, and 1:21 4/5 in the pace, but Mystical Carrie (Trace Tetrick) surged past from first-over before they entered the lane. It was all Mystical Carrie from there as she responded when called on by Tetrick and opened up to score by 2 1/2 lengths in 1:49 3/5. Penpaperpaige (Tyler Smith) was the runner-up, and Shouldabeenatd (Gingras) rallied for third.
Mystical Carrie, an Indiana-sired daughter of Tellitlikeitis, is trained by Erv Miller for owner/breeder Mystical Marker Farms. She now has a record of 10-7-0 from 23 appearances, and she has pocketed $244,678. She returned $3.80 to win as the 4-5 favorite.
