Sabonis and Let's Go Endofaera, the top two 3-year-old pacers in the state of Indiana, continued lengthy winning streaks in the $115,000 Jenna's Beach Boy and $75,000 Carl Becker Memorial as part of Friday night's stakes-laden card at Harrah's Hoosier Park.
In the Jenna's Beach Boy for colts and geldings, Sabonis cut the opening quarter in 26 2/5 but gave way to sit in the two-hole behind New York Sire Stakes champion Howlenthehills (Matt Kakaley) after that marker. Howlenthehills would go on to chop out the half in 55 2/5 and the three-quarters in 1:24, but Sabonis rallied in the passing lane in the stretch and surged by Howlenthehills to prevail by half a length in 1:50 1/5. M-M-S Bud (Jay Cross) was third from first-over.
There was an inquiry after the race to look at Sabonis going off the course in the upper part of the lane, but the judges deemed that he only went inside one pylon and did not gain an unfair advantage in doing so, so the result stood.
The Aaron Stutzman-trained Sabonis, a Tellitlikeitis colt, was bred by Karl Miller and is owned by Pat Miller. Sabonis, who won his 12th straight race, has an overall summary of 16-1-1 from 18 outings, has banked $454,950 and paid $2.40 to win.
