Harrah's Hoosier Park: New marks for Indiana Sires Stakes victors

The fifth leg of the Indiana Sires Stakes for 2-year-old male trotters was held on Wednesday night at Harrah's Hoosier Park, with Kansas Boy and Eugene The Genius posting victories in their $66,500 splits.
Starlitfranknstein (Trace Tetrick), the 4-5 favorite, led through stations of 29, 58 1/5 and 1:26 3/5 in the first grouping, but 48-1 shot Kansas Boy (Lewayne Miller), who sat on the inside in fourth throughout, rallied into the lead in the passing lane inside the final eighth, and his 27 1/5 last quarter propelled him to a 1 1/4 length victory in a life's-best 1:55. Mehelpingyou (John De Long) was the runner-up and Starlitfranknstein faded to third.
A gelding by You Know You Do, Kansas Boy was bred by Howard Gill and Christopher Coyle and is trained by Jamie Macomber for owners Kenny Collier, Otto Rincker and Lisa Rincker. Kansas Boy has three wins and a third in eight starts, has put away $53,951 and returned $98.00 to win.

In the other section Eugene The Genius (Mike Oosting), sent off at 1-9, moved to the outside from third past the 27 3/5 quarter and took the top spot away from Kody Kickstand (Ricky Macomber Jr.) on the way to the 56 4/5 half. Eugene The Genius opened up a gap on the others prior to the 1:26 three-quarters and cruised to a 5 1/4 length trimph in a career-best clocking of 1:54. Operator (Kyle Wilfong) was up for second and Volo Cancellato (Jordan Ross) checked in third.
Missy Essig trains Eugene The Genius, a gelded son of Helpisontheway, for owners Russell Beeman and Charles Weaver. Eugene The Genius has a summary of 6-1-0 from seven trips behind the gate, has pocketed $155,625 and returned $2.20 to win.
