Harrah's Hoosier Park: Favorites sweep in Indiana Sires Stakes for sophomore male pacers
Egomania, last year's Indiana Sires Stakes champion in the 2-year-old colt and gelding pace division began his 3-year-old season in the state-sired program with a 1:49 4/5 score in one of four $26,750 divisions on Friday afternoon at Harrah's Hoosier Park.
Driven by John De Long, Egomania moved two-wide from third heading to the 1:23 three-quarters, then out-finished leader Rockin Medicine (Lewayne Miller) through the lane, using a 26 1/5 final kicker to get up and win by a neck. Shark Play (Brandon Bates) finished third.
An Always A Virgin colt, Egomania is trained by Brian Brown for owners Country Club Acres Inc., Joe Sbrocco, Richard Lombardo, and John Fodera. This was Egomania's seventh career win, and he has now earned $236,475. Sent off at 4-5, he paid $3.60 to win.
Tellmeaboutit (L. Miller), who beat Egomania in a 3-year-old open pace last Friday night, won the fastest of the four flights, taking the opener in 1:49 2/5. He used a big move in the third quarter to get into contention after riding back in sixth through the opening-half, then powered home in 26 3/5 to defeat Jagger Rocks (Sam Widger) by three-parts of a length. Ollie's Ztam (Ricky Macomber Jr.) checked in third.
Trainer Alvin Miller also co-owns the victorious Tellitlikeitis gelding with Twila Harts. Tellmeaboutit is now a seven-time winner, and he has pocketed $109,875. The 3-5 choice, he returned $3.40 to win.
Rockin TJ (Mike Oosting) sat a pocket trip through panels of 26 2/5, 55 2/5, and 1:24 2/5, then paced a 26 3/5 last quarter to win the third section by a length and a half in 1:51 1/5. Townline Shady Boy (De Long) rallied for second, and Boysrockthefarm (Macomber Jr.) advanced from seventh to third in the final panel.
A gelding by Rockin Image, Rockin TJ is owned by trainer Jeff Cullipher and his partner Pollack Racing LLC. Rockin TJ made his fourth appearance in the winner's circle, and he has now banked $38,682. Dispatched at even-money, Rockin TJ paid $4.00 to win.
The final split went to Feherty (Peter Wrenn) in 1:50 flat. Starting from the outside post eight, Feherty worked out a second-over trip, and then rallied through the lane, kicking out a 27 second final station to prevail by half a length over Gazing Star (Widger). ER Sam (Don Eash) was the third-place finisher.
Feherty, who did not race as a rookie, is a Tellitlikeitis gelding trained by Melanie Wrenn and owned by Dana Parham and Eleven Star Stables. He has won half of his four tries, and he has earnings of $21,000. The even-money choice of the public, he returned $4.00 to win.
In other action on the card, the day's $20,000 open pace went to Castle Flight (L. Miller) in 1:47 2/5, which tied Sweet Lou's track record and was the quickest mile in the sport so far in 2019. Dylan Davis trains the 27-time winner for owner Michael Casalino Jr.
