Harrah's Hoosier Park: Danger trots to sixth straight score

Sensational sophomore trotting filly Danger extender her win streak to six as trainer Robert Taylor swept the eighth and final round of Indiana Sires Stakes for 3-year-old trotting fillies on Wednesday (Oct. 2) at Harrah's Hoosier Park. The 13-race card also featured a pair of Sires Stakes divisions for 2-year-old pacing fillies in their leg six finale prior to the $250,000 Super Finals on Friday, Oct. 11.

Danger was sent away as the 1-20 favorite in the $48,500 first division for trotting fillies with driver Kevin Lambright guiding her against five foes. Leaving from post four, Danger had to work hard to get to the front early, trotting to the outside of Social Chatter (Pete Wrenn) through a quick opening quarter of 26 4/5. Once clear, Danger kept rolling on the front to the half in 55 4/5 before trotting two lengths clear at three-quarters in 1:24 2/5. In the stretch, Danger kept Social Chatter at arm's length, crossing the wire 1 1/4 lengths clear in a lifetime-best 1:53 1/5. Skyway Paige (LeWayne Miller) finished third, 4 3/4 lengths back of the leader.

The Taylor-trained daughter of Swan For All-Chim Swift has won nine of 10 on the season, banking $147,271. Bred by Steve Stewart and Chris Beaver, Danger is owned by Anthony Lombardi and George Golemes.

Agent Of Fortune utilized similar tactics as her stablemate in the very next race, scoring in gate-to-wire fashion in the $48,000 second section. With Taylor doing the driving, Agent Of Fortune quickly grabbed command through an opening quarter of 28 2/5. The 2-1 second choice reached the half alone on the lead in 58 1/5 before Agent Of Fortune accelerated to a two length lead at three-quarters in 1:26 4/5. Sprinting home in 27 3/5, Agent Of Fortune reached the line 2 1/2 lengths clear of favored Hail Broadway (Jordan Ross) in 1:54 2/5. Star Pilot (Trace Tetrick) rallied for show.

Agent Of Fortune has won half of her 14 outings in 2024, sporting seasonal earnings of $181,116 for owners Taylor Racing and Bert Paddock. The daughter of Dover Dan-Posterity was bred by Black Creek Farm and has now earned over a quarter-million dollars lifetime.

Earlier on the card, sentimental favorite Tarshish scored a minor 6-1 upset victory in the $67,000 first Indiana Sires Stakes grouping for rookie pacing fillies, just over a week after her owner Samuel Samples passed away.

Driver Brandon Bates put Tarshish on the engine from post four, leading the field of six to the quarter pole in 27 3/5. 1-5 favorite Brookview Fancy (Joey Putnam), who entered the night riding a five-race win streak, took command on the backstretch on the way to the half in 56 3/5. Brookview Fancy looked to give the field the slip on the final turn, opening up by two lengths over Tarshish at three-quarters in 1:25. The advantage quickly dissipated in the lane as Brookview Fancy came under fire from all angles. Tarshish got the head start to her inside, squirting through to cross the wire first by 1 1/2 lengths in a career-best 1:53. Vel Cinderella (Kyle Wilfong) emerged atop a five-horse photo for place, with Infatuation (John De Long) finishing third.

The victory was the second in eight outings this season for the Walter Haynes Jr. trainee. The daughter of Luck Be Withyou-The Party's Rockin was bred by Luckiana Farms and has earned $84,725.

The $67,500 second test for pacing fillies returned to form with Can'ttouchthese delivering a convincing victory as the 1-5 favorite. Driver John De Long got Can'ttouchthese away in fourth early while Wunderkindbluechip (Jordan Ross) cut the quarter in 27 3/5. The field of seven remained single-file to the half in 56 1/5 before De Long tipped Can'ttouchthese first-over from fourth, moving to the leader's wheel at three-quarters in 1:25 1/5. Can'ttouchthese maintained her momentum into the lane, quickly powering clear before coasting to the wire 1 1/2 lengths clear of 63-1 shot Princess In Pink (LeWayne Miller) in 1:52 2/5. JK Pearl Stone (Pete Wrenn) closed for the third position.

Trained by Roger Welch, Can'ttouchthese was bred by owners William De Long, Patrick De Long and Douglas Riccolo. With five wins in seven outings, the daughter of JK Endofanera-Can't Touch This boosted her bankroll to $130,370.

Racing continues on Thursday (Oct. 3) at Harrah’s Hoosier Park, with the final preliminary rounds of Indiana Sires Stakes for both the 2-year-old pacing colts and geldings and 3-year-old trotting males highlighting the 14-race card. There are two divisions for the trotters, while three sections for the rookie pacers will go postward. Post time on Thursday is 6:15 p.m.
