?q=100)
Sabonis picked up his 11th consecutive victory by taking Friday night's $75,000 Hoosier Cup for Indiana-sired 3-year-old male pacers at Harrah's Hoosier Park. That was one of several stakes events for the Hoosier State's best on the undercard of the Peter Haughton/Jim Doherty Memorials.
Driven by Joey Putnam, Sabonis was third at the 27 second opening quarter but brushed to the point on the way to the 55 1/5 half. Sabonis raced on a loose lead from there through the 1:22 4/5 three-quarters and into the lane, and his 26 4/5 final kicker got him to the finish line a length and a quarter ahead of a rallying M-M-s Bud (Peter Wrenn) in a 1:49 3/5 mile. Dale Yeah (Marvin Luna) collected third.
The Aaron Stutzman-trained Sabonis, a Tellitlikeitis colt, was bred by Karl Miller and is owned by Pat Miller. Sabonis has an overall summary of 15-1-1 from 17 outings, has banked $397,450 and paid $2.20 to win.
Putnam and Stutzman also took a $68,000 Indiana Sires Stakes division for rookie pacing filly with Brookview Fancy, who led all the way in a 1:52 2/5 victory. By JK Endofanera, she is owned by James Miller and was bred by Brookview Farms. She has five victories and a second in six trips behind the gate, has earned $142,750 and returned $2.60 to win.
Can'ttouchthese (by JK Endofanera and bred by owner William De Long, William P. De Long and Douglas Riccolo, paid $3.20 to win) captured the other sires stakes clash for 2-year-old filly pacers in 1:52 3/5 for driver John De Long and trainer Roger Welch.
