Harness: Yacht Week tops strong Blooded Horse Winter Sale

webmaster|Feb 09, 2022

The 59th Annual Blooded Horse Winter Sale was held Tuesday, Feb. 8, at the Champions Center in Springfield, Ohio. In spite of snow and frigid conditions, owners, trainers and breeders flooded the pavilion to restock stables and acquire broodmares.

"Horsemen are undaunted by the weather. They love coming to a sale to actually see and touch the horses they want to buy," said sale manager Jerry Haws. "It may take a bit more time and resources, but the dividends far outweigh the cost. Bringing horses to a venue of eager buyers is a tremendous marketing tool."

Yacht Week, an upper level conditioned pacing gelding by Somebeachsomewhere topped the sale at $56,000. The handsome 6-year-old that earned nearly $100,000 last year in Ohio was consigned by Chad Slone and purchased by Herman Hagerman, Terrance Smith and Daniel Shrock.

A pair of freshened up 4-year-old conditioned pacers from the Simmons Stable drew significant interest. He's Gonna Getya, by JK Endofanera, sold for $35,000 to Brian Kleinberg of New Jersey, and the Captaintreacherous son, Moment To Shine, went to William Bright of Delaware for $32,000.

Frank Chick brought three nice racehorses from Delaware that will now be racing in the Midwest. The fast Father Patrick 5-year-old trotter Cupid Hanover went to Michael Ribant of Illinois on a $35,000 bid, while the ultra-consistent 4-year-old pacers Mr. Charisma and Rosa's Image sold respectively for $19,500 to Brandon Presto of Pennsylvania, and $18,500 to Nick North of Ohio.

The beautiful Muscle Hill daughter Woodland Hill, carrying her first foal by Andover Hall, was the sale-topping broodmare. Consigned by Spring Haven Farm for Amos Stoltzfus of Pennsylvania, she went to Indiana on a $50,000 bid from Owen Yoder. Bidding was also spirited for Keystone Wanda from the Black Creek Farm consignment. In foal to Luckbewithyou, the Somebeachsomewhere mare went to Camden Stud in Ontario on a $24,000 bid.
