Harness: USTA adds ACH online and Discover card to payment options starting Oct. 1

In an effort to enhance the services provided to the harness racing industry, the U.S. Trotting Association announced Tuesday (Sept. 1) that starting on Oct. 1 free online ACH payments will be available and Discover card has been added as a new payment option. In addition, the USTA will be updating its payment processing procedures to include a 3% processing fee for all credit or debit card transactions.

The implementation of the processing fee has been purposely timed to coincide with the introduction of the free ACH payment option.

Beginning Oct. 1, USTA online services will offer free ACH electronic bank transfers as a new payment option that includes no additional processing fee. Also, in response to requests from customers, the USTA will add Discover as another option for members who prefer to pay by credit card.

At the same time, a 3% non-refundable processing fee will apply to all payments made by credit or debit card. The fee will apply regardless of how the payment is submitted, including online, by mail, in person or with submitted paperwork and will be in addition to applicable dues, fees and charges.

“The USTA continues to listen to the needs of the industry and identify opportunities to improve the member experience,” said USTA Executive Vice President and CEO Mike Tanner. “Adding ACH as a free online payment option and now accepting Discover card are examples of how we are expanding payment flexibility and responding to requests from those who use our services.
“The USTA has made significant investments in digital platforms that provide greater convenience, efficiency, and accessibility throughout the industry. As these services continue to expand, responsibly managing the costs associated with providing, maintaining, and improving these systems is necessary.”

Payment options beginning Oct. 1, 2026:

·         Free ACH electronic bank transfer through USTA online services, with no processing fee.

·         Credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and the newly added Discover card, subject to a 3% non-refundable processing fee.

Industry participants will be presented with all payment options including ACH or check with no additional fees as well as for credit and debit cards with their applicable fees clearly identified before completing transactions.
