Harness: Strong middle buoys Preferred Equine Online sale
After a three-week break for the Lexington sales, Preferred Equine Online was back in action today. The Oct. 17 Mixed Sale tallied $827,500 in transactions and was led by the sporty 4-year-old pacer Twin B Heart Throb, who brought $74,000.
Sale owner and manager David Reid was pleased with the results. "The sale had what I'd call strong middle-market racehorses, those with a value of anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000, and most of them exceeded expectations.
"The bidding was solid all the way from Friday until the auction started to close today, and participation during the live auction was outstanding. There were a lot of buyers that everyone will recognize."
The sale-topper, Twin B Heart Throb p,3,1:51 2/5 ($100,825), was a stakes competitor who raced against the likes of Bulldog Hanover. He has been race-timed in 1:49 4/5 this year in the conditioned classes at Woodbine Mohawk Park. He was consigned by PEO as agent for Todd Ratchford and purchased by Marc Reynolds as agent for Tom Pollack.
Betts Racing bought the next-highest seller, the stakes winning sophomore filly trotter Resolving 3,1:54 2/5-'22, for $66,000. She was one of six selling in the racing and breeding stock dispersal of Ted Wilson.
The Weaver Bruscemi racing partnership snapped up the sharp 3-year-old Sporty M Three p,3,1:52 3/5f-'22 for $52,000.
Topping the five broodmares in the sale was another from the Wilson dispersal, the stakes-winning Muscle Hill-Sahalee 4-year-old Spruce Creek, in foal to Archangel. She brought $50,000 from purchaser Winbak Farm.
Buyers left the sale with 27 horses from the 32 that were on offer. Those not sold are still listed as "make offer" on the sale page, most with asking prices.
The entire sale averaged $30,648, with racehorses averaging just shy of $32,000.
The company's next online mixed sale is scheduled for October 31 -- Halloween afternoon. With bids starting to close at 3 p.m., the sale will conclude before the anticipated arrival of trick-or-treaters. Entries are now being accepted at preferredequineonline.com.
