Bourbon Courage, a half-brother to this year's Hambletonian champion Captain Corey, went to Doug Overhiser for $255,000 to lead Friday's first session of the 2021 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale. Selling as HIP 162 and bred/consigned by Peninsula Farm, Bourbon Courage is from the first crop of the Muscle Hill stallion You Know You Do, the Peter Haughton Memorial winner in 2017, and out of the Angus Hall mare Luv U All. The price of $255,000 was the highest for a Standardbred yearling sold at public auction in the state of Indiana. One other yearling cracked six figures during the session, and that was HIP 99 Happy Swan, who was purchased by agent Peter Wrenn for $120,000. Bred and consigned by Wilt Standardbreds, Happy Swan is Swan For All filly out of the Muscles Yankee mare Happy Place. Happy Swan's second dam is 2002 Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Trot champion Pick Me Up. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Overall, the session finished up 7.2 percent on average from last year ($23,077 in 2021 versus $21,528 in 2020).
