Great horses tend to rise to the occasion in big races: remarkable 11-year-old chestnut trotter, "Le Grand Blond," left from post 9, followed cover, lost cover past the quarter, trotted to the lead at the half in :54 4/5, maintained a quick pace under pressure and held a clear advantage to the wire under mild encouragement in a big effort
DEDI'S DRAGON -
Was used leaving from post 10, yielded, was third along the pylons, swung wide turning for home and finished steadily in a solid effort

10th at the half, followed weak cover, hustled three wide approaching the three quarters, wide around the final turn and finished strongly for the show, last quarter in :26 4/5

Had post 8, followed cover wide around a tiring horse approaching the three quarters, was second over on the final turn, angled three wide again late on the turn and held well
IDEAL CHAMP -
Left and was parked the mile without cover prompting a quick pace, held well until the three quarters then excusably tired
MCERLEAN*** -
Moved out on turn two and followed weak cover, brushed three wide around the final turn and finished gamely from a tough spot
AMERICAN RAGE -
Left from post 7, was pulled back at the quarter trying to tuck, lost his position, remained parked, picked up cover to be second over, weakened, but it was a very tough trip

Followed cover from post 7, swung three wide late final turn and finished fast
OUR DRAGON KING -
Left well from the rail and yielded to a strong leaver in a :26 4/5 first quarter, pulled the pocket to take the lead on the second turn, set a pressured pace and held okay
