Harness: Sharp Horses and Track Trends from January 25 - January 28

Bob Pandolfo|Feb 01, 2019

MOHAWK

1/26: 4w, no bias, hard to call it a bias, but closers did well again, covered closers rallied to win from 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th, this is a much more tiring track than most harness tracks

1/25: 2w, + closers

ALWAYS A HOTSHOT –

Was third over behind weak cover at the half, swung wide for the drive and finished quickly to just miss, last quarter in :26 4/5

CAL EXPO

1/26: 3w, no bias

1/25: 3w, no bias

CHILMA –

Left from post 6 and was parked the mile without cover, prompted the pace, held okay

NORTHFIELD

1/28: 9w, + speed

1/26: 8w, + speed

REVRAC HARBOUR –

Trotter was 8th at the quarter, went first over a long way, prompted the pace from the half, weakened in the stretch but only lost by four lengths

POINTBLANK HANOVER –

Trotter was 6th at the half, was third over behind cover that weakened badly on the final turn, went three wide around the final turn and finished gamely for the show

MIAMI VALLEY

1/28: 1w, no bias, sloppy track, races canceled after the 4th race

1/27: 3w, no bias

OWEN HANOVER –

Left from post 6 and was used hard to the lead past a :26 4/5 first quarter, set a quick pace and weakened while beating five horses home, not an easy trip

FOURBOLTMANE*** -

Left from post 9 and was used hard to the lead in :26 3/5, set a quick pace under pressure and held bravely to miss by a head to the 3/2 favorite

SHAGNWITHTHEDRAGON*** –

Was 6th at the quarter, rushed up to challenge at the half, battled ferociously through a :27 1/5 third quarter, couldn’t wear down the favorite but missed by a head in a game effort

TYD THEGLYDE –

Was 9th at the half and 4th over behind a modest first half, finished gamely for the show

NUCLEAR DRAGON*** –

Left from post 9 and was used hard to the lead at the three eighths, continued on setting a fast pace under pressure and held gamely for the show

MY HERO RON –

Left and tucked third, was shuffled to 7th in tight quarters, rallied in tight quarters in the stretch, finished fifth, beaten two lengths

DOVER

1/28: 4w, no bias

THE MEADOWS

1/28: 5w, no bias, off track

FREEHOLD

1/26: 6w, + speed

1/25: 6w, + speed

IMAROCNROLLEGEND N –

Shipped in from Yonkers, had post 8, was 8th with cover at the half, roared three wide down the backstretch, made up ground quickly, was three wide most of the final turn, engaged the leader late on the turn and continued gamely to nail the 2/5 favorite late

MEADOWLANDS

1/26: 3w, + speed, hard to call it a bias when only three horses go wire to wire, but let’s call it a mild speed bias, particularly when you compare it to the way the track has been playing so far this winter; horses that left the gate or were put on the lead before the half won 8 of the races and there were really only two off the pace winners that rallied off cover trips in the 13 races

1/25: 5w, no bias

ALOTBETTOR N*** –

Had post 9 in a weak flow of cover, rallied three wide at the three quarters and finished strongly for the show from a tough spot, last quarter in :26 4/5

LIMELIGHT BEACH –

Classy veteran was 9th and on the move at the quarter, picked up weak cover, rallied three wide at the three quarters and finished gamely for the show, last quarter in :26 4/5

LIFE HAPPENED –

Had post 10, was 5th over at the half, rallied three wide at the three quarters and finished sharply for the show from a tough spot, last quarter in :26 4/5

URBAN RENEWAL –

Came off a layoff, followed cover third over off a modest pace, rallied three wide at the three quarters and finished gamely for the win

SISKEL –

Was 8th at the half behind a modest pace, followed cover, followed cover three wide at the three quarters and finished gamely for the show from a tough spot

DI OGGI –

Trotter came off a layoff, saved ground, moved out at the half but got stuck behind horrible cover, then shuffled in a blindswitch, swung four wide at the three quarters and finished sharply for the place in a game effort for new barn

REBEL ROUSER –

Had post 1, left well enough to protect his position, angled out in tight quarters in the stretch and cleared late with pace

OHIO LARRY –

Left from post 9 and tucked 4th, went first over and drew clear in the stretch

JACKSRLUCKYTOO –

Was third over behind a slow pace and a dull flow, angled wide in the stretch and finished well late

YONKERS

1/26: 3w, no bias

1/25: 7w, + speed

GUNPOWDER N –

Had post 8, followed cover 4th over and finished with solid pace from a tough spot
