Harness Racing: Sharp Horses and Track Trends for February 20 - 23

Bob Pandolfo|Feb 27, 2014

DOVER DOWNS

2/23: 5w, + speed

2/20: 4w, no bias, good, exciting races, six off the pace winners, unusual for this track

NORTHWESTERNDREAMS -

Left from post 7 and tucked 4th, rushed up approaching the half and fought the front-running winner tooth and nail to the wire just missing with a :27 4/5 last quarter

OHOKA TEXAS N -

Kept up well early then brushed to the lead at the half, took on strong pressure through fast fractions and excusably tired while only losing by a length

TERESA'S BEACH*** -

Followed cover 4th over and finished fast to just miss

CAL EXPO

2/22: 1w, no bias

2/21: 3w, no bias

FRANKLY SCARLETT -

Left, tucked, was shuffled, found room in the lane and finished full of pace to win

SENSATIONALIST -

Set a hot pace under constant pressure while refusing to yield; I'd throw this race out

NORTHFIELD

2/20: 5w, no bias, sloppy track

ALHAMBRA BOKAY -

Far back early off a modest pace, picked up poor cover, rallied wide around the final turn and finished full of pace for the place

THE MEADOWS

2/21: 3w, no bias, off track

2/20: 2w, + closers, sloppy track

SCOTTY MCTICKETS -

Followed weak cover and finished fastest of all from a tough spot

CHRISTINA VICTORY -

Trotter had post 8, followed weak cover and finished sharply for the place

ARTIST NIGHT*** -

Left from post 8 and was three wide on the first turn, tried to squeeze into a tuck but was shut out, then did tuck briefly off the first turn but got right back out, was passed by a three wide brusher entering turn three, lost that cover quickly, grinded up to challenge and battled gamely to the wire, finished 5th but beaten less than 2 lengths in a game effort

FREEHOLD

2/22: 8w, ++ speed

2/21: 4w, no bias, sloppy for races 8-11

2/20: 7w, + speed

FEEL THE BLUES -

Had post 8, followed cover wide from 4th over, made up good ground and finished willingly from a tough spot

MEADOWLANDS

2/22: 4w, no bias

2/21: 3w, no bias, off track

2/20: 1w, no bias, off track

BOBJACKS ANGLE A -

Was 4th over, followed cover wide around tiring cover, edged four wide and finished gamely for the place

SIMPLY BUSINESS -

Once classy pacer came off a layoff for new barn, left, tucked, followed cover, brushed wide when cover tired and drew off

BAMBINO GLIDE -

Trotter followed cover third over from post 10, rallied wide late on the final turn and finished solidly to just miss, home in :27 2/5

CHAROLOTTES MAGGIE -

Left and yielded on the first turn, followed cover but lost that quickly and brushed up to take the lead passing the half mile pole, gave way grudgingly late in this longer race

KJ'S FOXY LADY -

Had post 10 and was off the gate by 3 lengths at the start, stayed outside on the first turn and showed sharp speed to reach contention with a strong move but got on one line at the half and was uncontrollable, drifted four wide and even wider on the final turn; price factor in exotics with expected equipment changes and better post

TOP BRAND -

Moved out off the first turn and picked up cover, brushed three wide on the final turn, was left uncovered and battled gamely to the wire

GRANDPA DON -

Had post 10, was 5th over and finished well for the show

SHOOBEE'S PLACE -

Left from post 10 and tucked at the quarter, angled out in tight quarters in the lane and finished willingly, home in :26

ON THE RADAR -

Had post 10, angled out in the lane and finished sharply

K-LEES SHAKENBAKE -

Had post 10, angled out on the stretch, found room between horses and finished fast

ASHLEY'S HUSBAND -

Game sort broke stride along the inside down the back, dropped back a few lengths, recovered, was 9 lengths off at the top of the stretch, swung off the inside to find room in mid-stretch, was put to a drive and finished like a rocket to get up with a late rush

MONTICELLO

2/20: 1w, races canceled after first race, off track

YONKERS

2/22: 5w, no bias

2/21: 4w, no bias, off track

2/20: 2w, no bias, off track

OUTA MY HEAD -

Had a tough parked-out trip from post 8 and held gamely considering

PARTY HANOVER -

Had post 8 and weak cover, finished well for the place

MERCURIO N*** -

Had post 7 in a race where the 1-2 favorite got its own pace, followed cover from the third turn, stacked wide late on the final turn and finished strongly for the place

PARADISE WILLIE -

Meadowlands shipper had post 7, rushed up to pick up cover second over at the half, gunned three deep around the final turn when his cover expired, finished strongly under energetic handling to get up gamely, another exquisite drive by Sears

VIPER HANOVER -

Left weakly and was parked, tried to back into a tuck but was shut out, rushed up to challenge and had a brutal parked out trip

MIAS BOLD MANEUVER -

Had post 8, followed cover 4th over at the half, exploded three wide late on the third turn and swept the field to take the lead in an exciting old-school backside last-to-first brush, weakened late but just missed the place in a good effort

ZOOMING*** -

Trotter left from post 8 and was parked the mile without cover, finally reached the leader on the final turn and dug in bravely to lose by only 2 lengths in a big effort

FLEM N EM N -

Had post 7, left, tucked, grinded first over and finished gamely for the place

MONTANA PABLO A -

Followed cover third over, moved three wide late final turn and finished sharply

BAKIN ON THE BEACH -

Had post 6, left and tucked 4th (chart incorrectly has him 6th), went first over into a stepped-up last half against a loose-on-the-lead favorite and dug in gamely

CHICAGO HANOVER -

Saved ground and was shuffled, slipped out late on the final turn, angled to the far outside and finished fast

PONTIAC LUCK -

6th at the quarter, grinded first over against a tough odds-on front runner and held well

ATTA BOY DAN -

Went first over into a quick last half and held gamely to miss by two noses

GLASS PRINCE -

Followed dull cover off the third turn, angled wide for the drive and finished furiously to get up on the wire
