Harness: Preferred Equine mixed sale grosses $499,250

After a two week hiatus, Preferred Equine Online's Mixed Sale was back in full force on Monday (Aug. 15), with this installment's "all racehorse" auction tallying close to a half-million dollars in total sales -- $499,250, to be exact.

Leading the way was the lightly-raced and ever-improving sophomore gelding Katies Bet p,3,1:50 2/5-'22 ($23,714). He was sold by Preferred Equine Online as agent for Karen Carroll and purchased by Len Sadowsky for $74,000.

For only the second time in PEO's brief history, a sale entry raced just minutes prior to being offered for sale. Bomb Hugger 3,1:56 4/5f-'22 ($182,714) raced Monday afternoon in a $57,000 division of the New York Sire Stakes 3-Year-Old Filly Trot at Monticello Raceway, where she finished second after cutting the mile.

However, she failed to meet her reserve after a last bid of $80,000 and is currently listed on the sale page on a "make offer" basis.

Other sale highlights included the well-bred Captaintreacherous filly Captain Violet J, who was sold for Ken Jacobs to Josh Green as agent for Spring Station Bloodstock for $50,000.

Twenty-two of the 26 horses offered changed hands, with the four not meeting their reserves still available on a "make offer" basis on the sale page, some with an asking price.

Preferred Equine Online manager David Reid was again pleased with both the participation and the results. "There was spirited bidding throughout with successful buyers from the U.S., Canada and Europe," he said.

"With demand for racehorses like it's been, sellers are getting solid prices, and in return, buyers are getting some very good racehorses. We're seeing new customers with every sale, and sign-ups to bid have been increasing week to week as well."

Reid said he is most proud of the number of return customers -- both sellers and buyers -- and with the platform becoming a "go-to" for online sales to a growing number of prominent racehorse owners and major breeders.

"Buyers have taken notice of the continued success of our online sale grads," Reid said. "To date our grads have taken more than 100 wins for their new owners since their purchase."

Reid said he again plans to wait two weeks for the next PEO Mixed Sale, which will be held Monday, Aug. 29.
