Harness: Ohio Selected Jug Yearling Sale to take place on Friday

The Ohio Selected Jug Yearling Sale is this Friday (September 12) at the Pickaway Ag Center in Circleville, prompting the Buckeye State's successful Standardbred owners and trainers to begin acquiring next season's champions.

There are 280 yearlings cataloged, and the auction will get underway at 10 a.m. (EDT) on September 12 with a special Show Day on Thursday (Sept. 11). As always, the sales company and breeders will provide complimentary food and refreshments from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. (EDT) on Thursday, while prospective purchasers take a closer look at all the well-bred colts and fillies.

While the lucrative Ohio Scarlet and Gray Super Finals are still a few weeks away, many divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes are led by Ohio Selected Jug Sale graduates. It's easy to see why the astute horse people in Ohio make this sale their primary marketplace for future achievement.

Ohio's top three freshmen trotting colts - Ready Russell, Big Ranger and Rose Run Banker - all hail from the Ohio Selected Jug Sale, and success does not stop with the youngsters, as this year's sophomores are well represented by Ohio Selected Jug Sale graduates.

Spring Haven Farm consigned and sold the leading OHSS point-earning 3-year-old pacing colt RICK WINK p,3,1:49f-'25 ($531,750), who has won 12 of 19 lifetime outings.

On the trotting side of the ledger, LT LOVERBOY 3,1:52 1/5f-'25 ($463,860) is the leading point-earner for the boys and was Ohio's 2-year-old trotting colt of 2024. He was bred, raised and sold by Midland Acres, who will offer Hip #160, his Ready For Moni half-sister.

Overall, 26 sires are represented at the sale, including (seven or more): Catch The Fire (16), Downbytheseaside (32), In Range (24), Long Tom (26), Monte Miki (43), Ready For Moni (16), Summa Cum Laude (36), Uncle Peter (7), Volstead (20), and What The Hill (18).
