Harness: Northfield Park and Scioto Downs could open as soon as May 21
According to a release from the Ohio Harness Horsemen's Association, a meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 13 to discuss the potential return of live spectator-less racing to both Northfield Park and Scioto Downs in Ohio.
Under consideration at the meeting will be a plan that allows for training and qualifying as of May 16 and the possibility of live racing returning by May 21.
"Both Racetracks are subject to and shall comply with protocols in a plan that will be concurrently considered. Be aware this is all pending approval by the OSRC and the subsequent resumption by the Permit Holders," said the social media release from the Horsemen.
In related news, Scioto canceled its marquee Grand Circuit races - Jim Ewart Memorial and Charlie Hill Memorial - slated for later this year to help bolster the overnight racing purse account due to the loss of revenue during the shutdown of racing from COVID-19.
More details on the return of live racing will be released when available.
