Harness: Mixed Sale begins in Timonium

2012 Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Filly Pace champion and $1,338,408 earner Somwherovrarainbow went to Crawford Farms for $240,000 to head the first day of the mixed sale at the Standardbred Horse Sale in Maryland.
Selling as HIP 1140 and consigned by Diamond Creek Farm, Somwherovrarainbow was last bred to Always B Miki. From three living foals, her lone starter is the 4-year-old A Rocknroll Dance gelding Spectrum, who is a seven-time winner and has pocketed $62,098. In addition to her own on-track credentials, Somwherovrarainbow is out of 2004 Horse of the Year Rainbow Blue (1:49 2/5, $1,428,594).
HIP 1073 Live Laugh Love, a 5-year-old Donato Hanover mare, was purchased by agent Robert Lindstrom for $150,000 to wind up in second on the charts on Friday. Live Laugh Love, who sold barren, won eight races, earned $281,718, and had a mark of 1:52 2/5 during her career.
Two other broodmares made it into six figures, with HIP 1085 Chasin Clouds Away, a 10-year-old daughter of Credit Winner, going to Steve Stewart for $100,000 and HIP 1109 Southwind Prius, a 6-year-old Muscle Hill mare, going to Lindstrom for the same amount. Chasin Clouds Away, who was last bred to Father Patrick, is a half-sister to $1.2 million earner Habitat and to Breeders Crown 2-Year-Old Colt Trot winner On A Streak. Southwind Prius, who is a full sister to Southwind Hope (1:54 1/5, $219,573), earned $70,271 and took a mark of 1:56 3/5 during her racing career. She was last bred to Cantab Hall. Chasin Clouds Away sold from the Northwood Bloodstock Agency (agent) consignment, and Southwind Prius was offered by Preferred Equine Marketing, Inc. as agent.
Stallion shares also proved popular during Friday's activity. Four shares of Muscle Hill sold for $117,000 (HIP 1042), $115,000 (HIP 992), and $115,000 (HIP 1028), and $110,000 (HIP 1049), and a Captaintreacherous share (HIP 1033) fetched $115,000. Crawford Farms bought two of the Muscle Hill shares, and the other two went to Paul Spears and Joe Parisi. Parisi also was the winning bidder of the Captaintreacherous share.
While down in gross and average from last year when the first day of the mixed sale was buoyed by the dispersal of White Birch Farm broodmares, today did finish up in gross ($6,567,000 to $5,198,000) and average ($23,880 to $21,568) over two years ago. There were 275 offerings today and 241 offerings in 2018.
The 2020 Standardbred Horse Sale concludes tomorrow with the second session of the mixed sale. HIPs 1300-1525 in the regular catalog and 1800-1829 in the supplement catalog will be offered.
