Harness: Miki Shan N powers to Gold Cup & Saucer title

Red Shores / X Miki Shan N and his connections celebrate his Gold Cup & Saucer win

Miki Shan N, who raced in the MGM Borgata Pacing Series at Yonkers earlier this year, was a 1:51 2/5 victor of the 2025 edition of the C$100,000 Atlantic Lottery Gold Cup & Saucer for older pacing males, which was held on Saturday night at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Prince Edward Island.

Elimination winner Its Major Major A (Marc Campbell) led the way through opening-half fractions of 27 seconds and 55 seconds while Virgo (Brett Beckwith) tracked him from the pocket. To the outside, Poseidon Seelster (Bob McClure) got parked in fourth after he floated out for a spot from post eight, and Miki Shan N (Corey MacPherson), the other elimination winner, latched onto his cover from second-over.

Despite the wide journey, Poseidon Seelster moved forward quickly past the half and overtook Its Major Major A before the 1:24 1/5 three-quarters, then was able to get down to the pylons. That put Miki Shan N first-over as Its Major Major A stopped and Virgo suffered broken equipment in the two-hole, bothering several horses behind him.

Although he was now uncovered, Miki Shan N went on the attack immediately against Poseidon Seelster and showed a lead on the rim on the far turn. Poseidon Seelster tried to battle back through the stretch drive, but it wasn't enough as Miki Shan N got to the wire a length in front. Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes), Legion Seelster (Dave Dowling) and Arbritrage Hanover (Billy Davis Jr.), who all suffered interference from Virgo, rounded out the top five.

"I just let them all settle in front of me," MacPherson said after the win. "I saw Bob was going to be parked out. That horse has class and he carried me where I needed to get to go. This horse was amazing tonight.

"It's amazing. This is the thrill of a lifetime. To get to drive a horse like this is amazing, but to win a race like this is crazy. He's as tough as can be. You just give him daylight and he goes. What a great animal."

Chris MacKay trains Miki Shan N, a 6-year-old Always B Miki stallion, for owners Kap Singh Racing Stable, Stephen Klunowski, Earl Hill Jr. and Donald MacRae. Miki Shan N won for the 17th time in 54 career starts, has earned C$273,390 and paid $4.50 to win. He's a perfect seven-for-seven in the win column since he shipped north from Yonkers to race in the Canadian Maritimes.
