Harness: Lexington Selected Yearling Sale ends down slightly on average, has record gross
The 2018 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale came to an end on Saturday night at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion. The top seller for the night was HIP 683 Coventry Hall, a Cash Hall colt who sold for $210,000.
Bred and consigned by Walnut Hall Ltd., Coventry Hall is out of Canland Hall (Garland Lobell, $339,143), making him a three-quarter brother to Cantab Hall. He was purchased by Denmark's Keld Gregersen.
Tonight's average ($23,863) was down 11.4 percent from last year. On average the sale was down 3.2 percent from 2017 over the five nights ($56,652 versus $58,537), but the gross was a record $39,770,000 (702 yearlings sold).
The sire average (for multiple sellers) was topped by Muscle Hill at $121,000 for 48 head. He was followed by Somebeachsomewhere ($106,269) for 26 sold, Father Patrick ($87,208/48 sold), Chapter Seven ($86,963 for 27 sold) and Captaintreacherous ($86,931 for 58 sold). The buyers list was led by Burke Racing Stable LLC., who bought 13 for a total of $1,216,000. Ken Jacobs was second at $1,192,000, with agent Bryan Montgomery ($995,000), Dana Parham ($840,000), and agent John Fodera ($712,000) rounding out the top five.
While the yearling portion of the sale is in the books, the new Lexington Selected Mixed Sale will take place tomorrow night, with the likes of newly-crowned world champion Impinktoo going through the ring. For full results of the sale, click here.
